I've heard that it's fine to receive signals with an untuned antenna, but people receiving your outgoing calls will have a hard time getting a clear signal and it can fry your radio's circuits after a few months of using it that way. My radio isn't expensive, but I'd like my voice to go out loud and clear so I want to get mine SWR tuned. The tuner is like $30 but I can't justify going out to buy one only to use it once.

cant believe how big this is.. last October this run only garnered 6 tacos. Being that it has gotten so big. maybe Cooks is not a good meeting place, We will be competing with mountain bikers that park there and also maybe the motorcycle crowd. just sayin.

Cooks has auxillary parking areas for non-motorcycle traffic both to the left and right of the bar. To the right is the much bigger dirt lot we can easily fit into. The crowd doesn't get too big there until about 1:00pm anyway.

Nope. Holy Jim's has been graded and is now overrun by bro teenagers in block lift ford rangers.

Silverado Canyon is on the other side of Cooks Corner, about 12 miles down Santiago Canyon road.

I have only seen one ranger up there my entire life, and he said I only need one if I'm parking my truck to go hiking or biking. If I'm going to be parked for a short amount of time and standing next to my vehicle, no pass is required. But I guess better safe than sorry...I'll probably be going over to Corona on Sunday from the top. There's an AWESOME mexican food place there just one exit from where you get dropped off. :D
