A buddy of mine gutted his cats so he can still pass visual (which I have never seen done during smog) and he still passed in his IS300. Sometimes I really wonder how effective cat's are on certain vehicles.

I bet for trucks its really necessary, but for others, not so much...

    where did you order from?

i tried on ebay and they all had disclaimers that they are unable to ship in CA, even the vendors that are here in L.A.

    shit's cray...

i actually ordered it off of ebay and i just went back and checked my order, it was only $60:D.

    seller: wideopenspeed
    http://stores.ebay.com/Wide-Open-Speed

part# i ordered: Magnaflow Hi Flow Universal Converter 94605

after the initial install my cel did pop up indicating a bad rear o2 sensor. i replaced it, over 235k miles, and everything has been fine. good luck!

btw, its listed for $71, but i think i made an offer for $60 and they took it, lol.

I need to replace my O2 sensors and cat before next may too. Will that magnaflow Hi flow cat pass CA emissions? If so this is probably the way I'm
    Going to go too.

    No problem.

I see no reason why it shouldn't be able to pass. If it was too free flowing, I think it would trip the CEL to come on. Make sure you buy a Denso/Toyota sensor.

Hmm did yours pass? If so where do I get the Toyota/Denso sensor? Also read some where that one isn't actually an o2 sensor but called something else is that true?

I smogged the truck 1wk before my cat got stolen so I can't say that 100% it will pass, but I'm confident that it will.

For the sensor, you can try rockauto.com. Do a search for a 5% discount. Or any online Toyota parts store. The front sensor is what you're talking about and that's called an air/fuel ratio sensor($$$). The rear sensor is a lot cheaper and it mainly monitors the cat's efficiency.
