New Member has Mod Fever!

What's up everybody? I've made a few posts on TW already, but figured I better introduce myself.

I've had my Tacoma for about a year (was used), and am starting to get Mod fever...probably from reading on this site for awhile . It's a Silver 2007, 4x4, 6 spd (it's not TRD). I've taken it to some fire roads in Angeles National Forest with stream crossings and such - pretty easy stuff so far. It's my daily driver, so I don't plan to go all out with mods. I go to the mountains often in the summer & winter to go hiking/ snowboarding, and find myself on other random adventures that I want to be ready for. I wouldn't mind starting to go on wheeling trips for the sake of wheeling too.

I haven't done much to it so far, at a minimum I figured I better put a good front recovery bracket on it, just in case. Sorry, no pics of it bolted up. I'll admit, I got the idea from another thread I read (probably here at TW).



Since taking the pics, I've rattle canned it black.

Since these trucks are pretty capable stock, and I'm not sure how much wheeling I'll be doing, I won't be doing suspension/ lift/ tires for awhile. I'm considering rock sliders as a first major mod...for a bit of protection in wintery conditions (sliding into a tree or...Socal drivers trying to drive their front wheel drive cars in the mountains), or to actually use them for what they're for...rocks! Is this an appropriate first REAL mod?

I don't really know anyone to hit the trails with, so I'm looking forward to meeting some locals here is SoCal.

Hello from the other east coast, Canada that is. Take your time on the mods, their always the option of modifying as parts wear out. Anyway I'm sure you'll find all king of Tacoma locals in your area for trailing. Enjoy, go.

 

Welcome to TW!! Most people dont put on sliders until there truck is lifted anyways for that extra clearance. If you dont do a lot of wheeling anyways, I would probably spend my money on something else or save it for a lift and new tires.

 

Nice! I grew up near Buffalo, NY. I could pick up all my favorite Canadian radio stations I was so close. Yeah, I plan on taking my time with the mods - just testing the waters. I do most of my own wrenching, but w/o a garage (apt living sucks...), sliders seemed like the easiest mod.

I should probably build myself some better leaf packs, and do the front driver side diff bushing mod before anything else...

I know how you feel about a garage, Beside my Tacoma I also have a 2003 Chevy Tracker which will be for sale soon. But I'm in the process of changing the oil pan (rusted pan and leaking) before I put it for sale. Dropped the rack and pinion and front differential last Friday so that I could remove the oil pan. Work on the gravelled driveway. Next weekend is the reassembly process. Garage would be nice.
