Orange County CAF's: up to no good

so when you are heading up chapman past irvine lake, where do you go to get to silverado? I lived in orange county for 20 years and have never been to silverado. I am going to hit silverado up for the fourth of july though.

 

We've addressed this issue, and are planning on moving up in small groups. It's more enjoyable, and less dangerous for oncoming traffic.

 

Chapman becomes Santiago Canyon Rd, then you pass Irvine Lake, and after about 3 miles or so, you'll cross a bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, you make a left on Silverado Canyon Rd.

But we will be meeting at Cooks Corner, which is another 12 miles down Santiago Canyon Rd after Irvine Lake. It's a biker bar on the right side, can't miss it.

 

lol my mother's house is off of santiago x jamboree. I know the area well hehe, just never been into silverado canyon. what's the terrain like?

 

Pretty mild, dirt roads...sometimes rocky from rockfalls.

 

any jumps? is 4x4 required?

 

Nothing I would jump in my truck. Prerunners can make this run with no problem, unless maybe it started pouring rain for some reason.

~CB RADIO (if you don't have one its okay.)
~Food,Water,Snacks
~Wilderness pass at Big5 for $5
Bring all the stuff you think you'll need like Sunscreen, Insect Repellent
Windbreaker Jacket, Folding chairs etc.

It's a pass to get you into the wilderness! DUH!!

Just a way for "the man" to make money off of us, since they seem to be unable to manage it from year to year.

It's like needing a ticket to get into Knotts...

who regulates these tickets?

 

IIRC it is controlled by gum-ment to help pay for maintenance and/or any projects needed. They are location specific, and the yearly passes don't always work for every park up and down the coast.

 

I think you only need the "wilderness pass" if you are leaving your vehicle to go on a hike. Last time I went there was 7 trucks and none of us had a pass. Are we just going to double back once we get to the towers? Or are we taking this trail to the other side? The trail will take you to Lake Elsinore or up Ortega highway.

 

I'm down with going with Traveler to the other side.

 

Me too to the other side lol. I'll go to lake elshinore and just kick back for a bit. But we will stop at the "parking spot/rest area" pass the towers and just kick it there for a bit start the bs talk

 

i went up there on saturday with some friends, 2wd is perfectly fine!!

and yea, theres jumps on the trail, i made my 2012 fly!!

 

I finished installing my CB today. I bought an SWR meter to tune my antenna.I will take it with me this weekend so we can tune your antenna. I had thepeople over at Halcon Communications in Downey boost my Cobra 19 to 20wattoutput. Can’t wait to see how it works! I got my SWR down to a 1 to 1!

 

where are you guys getting your cb's?? no stores carry them and i can only find them online... i would like to get one for this weekend.
