Walked out of my house this afternoon on my way to vote and found this little guy on my driveway drinking water in a puddle. He appeared quite tame, would allow me to walk up to within about 2 feet. I watched him for a few minutes, checking out his leg bands. When I got back he was gone.

I know nothing about pigeons - is this a racing pigeon?

I knew ya'll would enjoy this, but seriously - I think it's a racing pigeon. People do race the damn things.

I don't know who, why, how, etc.

    But they really do...

I would think that would kinda be like a Racing Ford Taurus. However, It could simply be a marked bird, or used in tracking migration patterns. OR.....it could have broken out of jail.

When I was doing research in grad school, one of the guy we stayed with in the field owned homing pigeons. He had us take them with us to the field and when we got to wherever we were going we let them go. They always found their way back. Until this one day when we let them out and a hawk killed one of them right in front of us. Awesome.

Did I personally? No, but they did have bracelets. I wonder if the hawk was able to digest that....

Could be a European racing pigeon. They turn left and right. He kinda looks Italian.

It was hot and he was thirsty - just taking 5...

Maybe this was the season opener and he's not back in shape yet?

Interesting....perhaps the Hawk now has an enlarged neck area?

Note the skinny legs. The F1 Pigeons have wider legs for better cornering. This pigeon posted, clearly looks as if it was saddled down by regulations, thus making him no faster than the other pigeons. He does seem to have a rather Itallian look to him though.....Pehaps he imigrated over from F1?

That could be why it doesnt have a sponser yet. Not many gyro eaters are watching American NASPigeon racing.
