wheels appear too small

Is it just me or has annyone else noticed on the 05+ access cab (not prerunner) ... the wheels appear a little too small for the 'more bulbous' Gen 2 body?

Obviously, could put aftermarket wheels/tires on, but what a hassle and $$, not to mention throwing off the speedo and ODO.

 

There is a lot of room around the tires in the wheel well but heck it makes it that much easier to clean under there.

I'd agree with you 100% on the 4x2's, but the 4x4's & Prerunner look fine to me.

 

Tiremiata.com is a tire calculator, I went with 265/70/16 and all is well.

 

i've noticed a lot of trucks the wheels look too small. brother in law just bought a new 1/2 ton chevy truck and there is room for a family of 4 in his rear wheel well

 

One of the main reasons I went with a prerunner. I stood there looking at those small spare tire looking wheels and tires and looked at the prerunner and said that is what I really want.

 

I have a friend who really wants a no frills 5 lug but he hates the wheels and tires. I have to agree, its like when you see enormously fat people with little bird legs, just doesnt look right. I like the 5 luggers but the first thing i would do is find a good tire wheel pkg

 

Here is a pic of my Taco. The wheels are from a Tundra, running Bridgestone Winter Duellers. They look fine to me. (If you look close, you can see that my dog is taking a leak!

Exactly. I really did not like how the non-prerunners looked with those tires. I saw them side to side at the dealer, and the TRD Off Roads looked like the mean older brother to the standard SR5. There really was no contest. (plus the really cool outside temp / compass gauge was a strong selling point too ).

So, I'm walking past a fleet of 40 + brand new Tacomas this morning, see a gorgeous 08 dark Blue access cab, 2WD, not prerunner, it's got the 4 cyl motor, has the 16 in wheels and 245 tires, hmmmm, one caveat ...

it's manual transmission. I get enough shifting on my streetbike, TYVM.

 

whoops, my mistake, that blue 4 cyl truck I saw this morning was a prerunner model.

I have bought aftermarket rims for my vehicles. I once drove six hours to the Tire Rack to do just that.

I probably would have done that with the Taco as well. However, the rims you see in the above pic were for sale on consignment at my tire dealer when I was equipping the truck for the winter. So now I have steel rims for summer, and nice looking aluminums for my winter tires!
