I know there isn't much of a subject to this photo but my main focus was the "red" sun last night do the the fire in arizona! Albuquerque is known very well by our locals for its beautiful sunsets even when there is a "smokescreen"

Wow didn't know we had a photography forum like this! I've been shooting for about 3 years now...

Some of my shots from yesterday up in the mountains. Got a little too much chromatic abberation on a few shots, but it was a real quick post-process.

I'm really enjoying it, it feels really comfortable in my hands, and I love the view finder. The auto-focus is really fast.

Well, tone-mapping is part of the HDR production process. The first image is the product of merging 5 different exposures and tone mapping, and the others were tone-mapped from single RAW format image files.

Depends on your definition of real HDR? I use Photomatix Pro 4 for almost all of my photography.

Here was my attempt at the water drops. I couldnt get directly parallel with where the water was falling, and even at f/8 there was a fairly shallow DOF, shallower then I expected. I also didnt realise that halfway through my shoot I was at f2.8 for most of them, which with me not being parallel to the drops is why some of the drops are not 100% sharp. These were the best ones IMO and I will probably try this again another time. I did crop them a little as there was a lot of just empty blue space. Please critque.

I am not really 100% happy with these, just thought I would share.

Thanks for the idea brian :D

Nice shots AJ! I've been revising how I take mine lately and using the flash to stop them in the air instead of shutter speed. Currently I've been shooting a 1/250 to 1/500 with great results. Usually stopping down to around f/8, but the key is back lighting the hell out of the scene. I've been staging my flash almost directly behind the drop with a lot of pop. It takes a little more time this way because in commander mode my flash doesn't recover as quickly but they sure are sharp! The DOF takes a lot of practice to get used to though. Utilizing a calculator app I figure mines about .08 inches at most....considering my lens is only about an inch away from the drop. Like you said though...getting on level with the drop is key... hopefully you are getting close enough to fill the frame with your lens..if not...I highly suggest getting an extension tube.... I just bought the cheapest set on eBay and I could literally focus on a drop ON THE LENS if I had to.

Also... you gotta do everything you can to fill that frame if you want clarity... cropping really hurts something like this. Also...another thing I find fun is the 'clarity' tool in Light room. I tend to crank it all the way up....its amazing. Here's what I uploaded to instagram tonight.

Oh I am definitely getting close enough! Some shots were out of the frame! I will try that next time, thank you. I will see what I come up with. May I ask how you are getting almost parallel I the drops? I am having to angle my camera down which is why my DOF is all funky. And also, how do you figure out how shallow/deep your DOF actually is, is there an equation for it?

    Thanks again!

That new one is amazing, good job man!!

I'm not sure if the sharpness is the same as in PS, but in PS if you do sharpness too much you can start to get a halo affect around things, making it not look too good.
