3'inch lift, front

Will those of u who have a 3" lift on the front of truck only, post a pic of it here. I have a 2011 DC, LB. 4by4. I am thinking of installing the 3"lift front only, so I can go with a little bit taller,wider tire. Any info truly appreciated.

 

Why not lift the whole truck? With only the front being lifted you'll have a major lean....

 

Just was thinking it would look a little better? Well... after reading forums I most likely will have the all around 3' lift. But it still would be interesting to see pics if any are out there.

lol....stay away from spacer lifts lifts too. Whats your budget? I can point you in the right direction for a good lift etc...

 

Don't mean to butt in but avoiding spacers in the front, what would maintain a factory ride but wont blow the back can a 3" AAL be done with $400

 

Bilstein 5100 shocks set at 2.5" (not quite 3" but hey") and a 1.5" AAL

This will allow you to run up to a 285/75/16 (with mild trimming)

When you set the 5100s to 2.5", would the front end require any more mods. Would it maintain a close to factory ride? MY truck is not 4*4, wish it was, so that being said I am not really going to be using the lift. I want to keep my stock rims since I like the look.

 

No, you can retain your Factory A-Arms to maintain alignment and you don't need longer brake lines or anything like that.

You can run 285s with 1.25" Wheel Spacers (And trimming) or just stick with a 265.

 

I think the front is around 1" lower than the rear so if you want to level it do 3" front & 2" rear.
I wanted to keep factory rake so went with 3" front & rear.

 

No additional mods required although at 2.5" you'll be close to where you need new UCA's.

The ride will be stiffer. You're gaining lift by preloading your factory coils so you will notice the front having a firmer ride.

Since you have a Prerunner, you might want to consider lift spindles. They utilize the stock front suspension components (except spindles of course), would maintain a factory ride and can give you around 4" of lift depending on which spindles you choose.

 

Would everyday normal driving require the UCA's. Would considering new coils and the 5100s be feasible or is that just a coil-over kit.

A spindle kit runs about 1k.

 

At 2.5", aftermarket UCAs are optional. When getting your alignment done, tell the mechanic to try to achieve the median caster value (3 deg) specified in the service manual, even at the expense of camber. Caster affects the steering's self-centering behavior. If caster is too low, the truck will wonder more on the road.

Preloading the stock coils with 5100s still gives a softer ride than lift springs from Eibach or OME, which have stiffer rates.

 

The Maxtrac ones were $5-600 I believe and that's all you'd need for 4" of lift up front, no UCA's, no shocks, no coils.

At 2.5" of lift up front you run out of adjustment to get an alignment. You can't get enough caster so sometimes the truck can feel like it's wandering at speed. Caster being out of spec does not cause uneven tire wear so if you can deal with the truck handling poorly, then you would not need new UCAs for daily driving.

You can put new coils with 5100's and it'd result in a better ride vs. preloading the stock coils in my opinion. And yes, that would be a type of 'coilover kit' if you will. OME or Eibach coils can be purchased for around $160ish I believe through Toytec and you'd need to reuse your stock top plates.

 

I disagree with almost everything you just said... I would sacrifice very little camber to gain caster. Out of spec camber will eat up your tires so if you're going to go that route, you might as well buck up and buy new UCAs cause you're going to spend that money in new tires if you don't.

OME coils are only 40 #/in heavier than stock coils. Preload stock coils 2.5" and they will be much stiffer than an OME coil. Truth be told, Eibachs are a stiff coil, can't argue that point.

 

At the expense of the camber it just may wear tires a little more?

I pretty much get the front which is more complicated...the rear is just blocks or leaf 1.5" or 2".

Would spindles mess with camber and caster?

I'm looking to do a 3" lift. What's the best set up but not too expensive and how big of a tire can I put on 17"?
