Changing the clutch

Hello! I've got a 1995 tacoma ext cab, inline 4. I need to get the clutch changed, and since i don't have a lift, nor the patients to do it on ramps/jack, i got a quote from a mechanic. The guy mentioned something about getting the flywheel remilled. Now, I'm a junior in highschool and I'm down in the autoshop every chance i get, and i've never heard of anyone having to get a flywheel removed. Now don't get me wrong, I know I don't know everything, but I just wanted to make sure he wasn't taking money from me, because I'm a young kid. Any thoughts?

 

Sometimes when you replace the clutch disc, it's because the disc wore out all the way into the rivets. That scores the flywheel which might make the new disc not grab as well or fail early. If this is the case, yes spend a few extra dollars to get it done right. If the clutch did not damage your flywheel, you can simply "scuff" the surface with 320 grit or finer to remove glazing then wash with brake cleaner and install a new disc, pressure plate, and throw out bearing.

I would just get it resurfaced, clutch parts are not a thing you want to skimp on because it is the labor that costs the most.
