Hey guys, I was at the dealer the other day and looking to maybe move into a 4wd Access Cab from my 2wd Prerunner double cab. I looked up the MPG and they were the same. My 2008 2wd is rated 16/21 and the 2012 was 16/21 as well. Just making sure that made sense. I always thought 4wd no matter if it was full time active or not got worse gas mileage due to weight, etc. Guess not the case with the Tacos? Ive been getting around 18mpg so if I can get the same out of a 2012 4wd access cab Id be more than happy. Thanks for the two cents in advance! Zach

My 4X4 DCLB gets better observed mileage than I ever got with my Access Cab PreRunner. Primary difference being the auto in the DCLB turns lower RPMs at highway speed than the 6 speed in the PreRunner.

When I got my 2010 4wd Access cab I tracked my mpg's like a nerd to see if I could realistically boost it and to sort of change my driving habits or at least realize any possible savings.

The best I got was 23 mpg, but my average was 20. The worst I ever got was 18 mpg.

Even after I added my steel bumper and skids and lift, I still get 19 - 20 mpg.

The only time I see less than 19mpg per tank is either when the majority of the time has been off-road or if my wife has been driving it.

Yeah, when I hit 18 mpg, during the tank of gas I accelerated like crazy, drove at 100 mph a few times, went 80 mph most of the time on the highway. I used the 4wd on the highway during a snowstorm for an hour. Still I got 18.
