Anyone have any input on Certs? I already work for a huge IT company in their data center and about to get some books and try to get my A+ cert. Wasn't really sure what one to go for after that.

Which side of the IT field are you wanting to get into? A lot of employers like A+ but it isn't a requirement most of the time. It really just depends on what other background/training you have.

I think I want to get into more of the Hardware side of things since I work in the data center. I don't think I would like being a sys admin for Unix or Windows. Network would be interesting as well. I work as a help desk person so I have my hands in a little of everything from network, hardware, and basic windows admin (patching, database and applications)

Then you are going to want to look at a Network+ cert. It is decently respected and is a good way to get in the door. The Cisco CCNA is a better cert but takes a bit of experience to really get your head all the way around it; not to mention a couple of bucks to get the materials and take the test.

They are actually very similar. I've done some android development using Java and it was super easy to adapt. Really the only thing I had to learn was the new classes, methods and properties. Syntax is almost identical.

No, the one I posted is actually a web app made in flash. It's a training course for one of our clients. I was just saying that I've used both java and AS3 and they both have almost the same syntax

Nice, I will look in to that. I used alot of JAVA in College and now again in the MSCS degree I'm working on. I use mostly PHP, HTML, CSS & MySQL on websites, so if Flash Action Scripting is not that different from JAVA its worth for me to look in to it as it would make a nice addition.

Right now I'm looking to make time to get into Objective-C/Iphone Apps/Cocoa and also into .NET. Already have some books for all of them except for .NET so if anyone has a book they recommend let me know!!!

Gotcha, I missed that you had said that was flash. Makes my object oriented class from college seem more valuable, haha.

I use a lot of PHP and MySQL too. Flash is still really good for interactive web apps (minus use on iphone and ipad obviously). I use to think flash web sites were cool (http://ronnieswietek.com) which is why I did mine in all flash, but I've learned that ain't that case. I should redo mine but never will have time. I really love PHP and MySQL. This is the latest web app I made using that: http://codecanyon.net/item/client-photo-studio-photography-cms/1191688 (click the live preview button)

I still have problems working in a true object oriented model, specifically MVC. I make up my own what I think is MVC and its worked so far :p

LOL, I agree though, I think the first time you learn a language it'll seem weird at first, but then it just kind of makes sense. Good thing is that once you learn one language, learning more gets easier because you are doing what you already know/learned how to do, just using different words. The one I've truly hated was Assembly, I had to learn a bit for a class, and I have never touched it since then lol.

What does gives me headaches is anything related to networks, ports, protocols, firewalls etc etc. I've been wanting to learn about that for a while, but don't know where to start.

I can do networks, servers, ports, protocols, windows, crap like that. I just can't stare at code. I can do it, just makes me miserable.
