I was looking at tires and saw that michelin makes (or used to) a 255/100R16. It was used by some European army. It said they are super rare though i would love to have that size. 36x10 M/T basically.

 

Sorry, I don't remember the details of our conversation but what you are describing makes sense. When you slip it into neutral you are removing the load on the drive line and the diff.

Even though the diff is still spinning, no engine torque is being applied.

Brady, how is your drive line angle at the center bearing? Have you tried dropping the bearing? U-joints aren't dry are they? The next possibility is the pinion bearing in the diff. Don't know if it is true for all but have heard that 2nd gen diffs are vulnerable for issues with the 3rd member bearings.

 

Not sure about any of that. Haven't looked into it too much yet. I should have some time this weekend to play with it.

 

If your drive line u-joints are greasable, make greasing them a normal part of your maintenance routine.

On my truck it was very easy to drop the center bearing. No special bracket required, just a short stack of washers on either side. The two mounting bolts were long enough to accommodate a 1/2" stack of washers which turned out to be enough.

 

I have an OME carrier bearing drop kit if you want it Brady no charge.

 

Yep. I know of them. I believe there are 5 or 6 on the 2nd gen. I just need to get a grease gun.
