I going to share something with you guys and I need your feedback, because it's driving me crazy.
A few months ago, I got some seat covers, and they were damaged, the seller gave me my money back and told me to keep them, i told him that I wasn't going to use them and I was going to put them in the Free Stuff thread, he was ok, so I did, and a shipped them to a member that wanted them.
In another occasion i purchased a muffler from a member and when I when to install it, they couldn't since the holes were too big and with a lot of weld debris. i paid $50 for it, so I ate it, not worth the 20 miles back to the guy's house.

Now a few weeks ago I got one nail on each of my back tires. Went to the shop and they told me that thay can't fix it ( whatever happened with patching the tires ?, anyway ). So i said to myself, i'll check the for sale thread to see if I can get 2 tires with 20k to match mine or 4 tires with low miles. My priority was to have all 4 tires with the same thread, so in the future I can replace them all at the same time.
Found a member with 4 tires with 4k miles and purchase them for $350, the guy lives in Huntington beach so we decided to meet close to Disneyland (55 miles from my house) got the tires, they looked new, lots of little rocks in the threads, but a lot of thread. Got home, take the tires and started to remove the rocks and found a nail in one of the tires, contacted the guy and he said: NO Way, but since his tires were full of plasti dip and dog hair, i took pictures and sent them to him.
He told me that he spent the money already so i have to wait. Told him that I was in his situation before and I understand, so I will wait a couple of weeks.
Then he contacts me.. Well here are the pm's, the guy is very upset.. Am I missing something?????
    Am I doing something wrong?

Him: just took em off yesterday have 4000 miles in em came off a 2012 offer?[/

Me: Will you sale 1 or 2?
    how much for 1

Me: I'll text you on Saturday if i finish early or to arrange for sunday morning.
    Thanks

Him: no worries good night man

Me: Thanks dude, where do u live? Closest big streets

Him: i live in huntington beach costa mesa area we can meet half way

Me: I'm in the 210 and the 605

Him: wanna meet at disney land

Me: Somewhere around the 5 and ball will be fine.
    Thanks

Him: yea just let me know where u wanna meet by disneyland i think tahts half way cuz its about 50 minutes from my place

Me: after i text him and sent him the pictures: Dudde, this situation with the tires sucks. Let's see if we can meet and i'll get you the tires back. I want a whole even set.

Him: Well im gonna need you to wait when I get paid twice because I just used the money for my car payment

Me: Ok, no problem, i'll wait for you, I have been in your situation. Just let me know how long and please Do Not Screw Me Over !! Just let me know.

Him:I mean you Said u have two good tires an all u need it 2 I gave u four good tires and well I guess three still for a good price those tires are 170$ each and

Me:I need 4 tires NOT 3. I don't want to change them at different times, i would never have a complete new set if i change the tires different.
I'll take them to your house if you need me to, but no way i'm keeping these tires.
    Please don't make this compliated.

    Thanks

Him: Your go an have to wait for me to get The money back I thought you were looking for only 2 tires and I just aske if you would take 4 and u said yes but whatever I'll give u your money back when I get it oh btw don't u have a spare?

Me: I want 4 tires with the same thread, that's why I didn't go to the tire shop and purchased 2 new tires. Just let me know how long I have to wait. Like I said before, I was young once and I've been in your situation, so I'm willing to wait a reasonable time (2 weeks?), also I'm willing to take them all the way to your house if I have to.
    Thanks

Him: Yea whatever dude I'll let you know when I get the money... And yea I ain't driving all the way that far early in the morning either

    Me: Good.

    Thank you

Him: And it'll prob take a few weeks I got bills to pay that's what I used the money on rent and car payment

Me: Ok, let me know as soon as you can.

Him: How bout I give you 50$ back and keep the tires it'll take forever till I save up to get a full 350 back with the shit i pay for

Me: Dude, I needed 4 tires with the same thread or I needed 2 tires. I didnt need 3 tires.*
I went to the tire shop and purchased 2 new tires. I wasn't going to risk to go thru this again. Just let me know when u have the money.*
Like I said , I have been in your situation. So I can wait a couple weeks. I hope you do the right thing .

Him: Like I said in trying to compromise with you if you wanna be hard then your gonna have to wait and a couple weeks isn't gonna cut it I'm 17 and have bills but I'll make sure u get Ur damn money back your just going to hbe to wait.

He doesn't have the money and he obviously has some kind of issue in getting it together.
That's one of the risks of buying private party. Sometimes you get fucked.

You first asked for price on 1, then 2, then the full set...
WTF is wrong with just using 2 for now... you still have a good spare from his 3, just take his $50 and be done with it. Maybe Discount can patch the 4th one that you bought?

Your original, did they tell you why they couldn't patch it? Likely because the hole was either too big or too close to the sidewall. Happens all the time.

Seriously, if I were the seller, I'd be telling you to take a hike. You're really being juvenile, but if you really feel that strongly, report him to a mod... there's no reason to dredge this up in the forum. Unless you intend to "out" the seller, it's just a childish rant.

There isn't a higher up for them to be held accountable to. It's not like when a floor person screws you over, you can complain to his superior and get something to make up for it.

When doing private part sales, you will get these on occasion. That's the risk you run for the sake of a bargain, convenience, etc...

I would give him a month to get in touch with you. If he has an attitude with you at that time, post up his info so others don't have the same experience.

If it were me I would hope to get my money back, but I'd be prepared to eat shit on this kind of thing. Once it goes beyond a gentleman's agreement, there really isn't much you can do.

If there was really plastidip inside the tire, plus a nail in it, I don't really see how the guy could not know that.

The tire can't be patched. I have my spare, never used it. No problem using 2 for now, but not for $300. I paid $350 for 4 tires with 4.000 miles that's $87 per tire. You are right, I asked for 1 or 2 because i didn't know how many he had. Once he said he had 4 I made an offer on 4.

Can't be patched, it's right on the edge of the tire.
So because he is 17 he is not suppost to have no principles?

To me, "pretty much brand new with 4000 miles" implies like new condition, not non-repairable condition. It's possible he didn't know about the nail, he is 17 and probably didn't check them closely. Bad situation, but the right thing to do is take them back and re market them to someone who is okay with one of them being bad.

Because he's 17 he spent the money and he doesn't even make $350/month at his minimum-wage part time job, which is why he had to sell his tires to make that payment.

Exactly why I don't buy used stuff unless I have no choice, then check it out while they stand there awkwardly.

Lot's of people seem to think that anything goes when it comes to making a few bucks.

My grandpa worked for Sunkist as a produce inspector. He had stories of suppliers packing rotten oranges in the bottom of the boxes and then filling the top up with the good ones. I'd like to think this whole buyer beware thing is a new development, but it was going on back in grandpa's time too.

I believe he knew the exact condition of the tires, thought he got away with selling them, you called him on it and he's upset he got caught. Just my 2 cents.

    Good luck!
