exterior audio idea

ive been kicking around this idea of putting marine speakers on the roll bar im gonna build for my truck and i was wondering how i would go about setting it so i can flip a switch and the speakers come on with the other speakers inside the truck. any thoughts?

 

Is this music going to be for you or is it going to be so you can show other people how cool you are?

 

For tailgating parties I assume.

If you wire them in with the regular speakers, get a double-pole switch and install it in the wire going out to them. Basically like doing any kind of lighting, just send the source & break it with a switch. you're just gonna want to break both the conductors on audio.

 

Would you have to install two separate switches for both conductors?

ok ill start doing research on a double pole switch. thanks for youre help. but one question that does a double pole switch do? i dont usually mess with audio or wiring.

 

I too have thought about this but I was thinking about the bottom of my toolbox (hidden until needed) since I don't have a roll bar

 

I'm actually not 100% sure if they make double-poles for automotive application. i had one on an old truck of mine, but used an actually 120v switch. a double pole switch is just a normal switch only it breaks 2 wires with the single switch. usually has something on it like "1 in 1 out & 2 in 2 out"

i think that should work. lol im not good with wiring stuff. but i believe it needs to have a total of 4 contact posts on the back (which im sure it does). 2 positive connectors and 2 negative.

 

When it comes to loud outdoor sound an amp is a must in my opinion. You have to use good power to get the sound to travel outside.

I would consider adding a small 2 channel amp for the roll bar speakers. Then you can just throw a basic spst toggle on the remote wire for the amp. Toggle on, sound outside and inside, toggle off, sound only inside.

That rocker switch might work. I can't see the back side of it so I have no idea. You will need two switches though; one for each speaker you're switching.

And yes an amp would be nice but I'm assuming this is on a budget. Look for an efficient coaxial. Something like a wakeboard boat speaker that's meant to operate outside. Should solve the mounting problem too.
