Hello everyone, I am relatively new here and I have a few questions?
I have a 2012 DC TRD Off Road with B type audio system. This system has bluetooth for phone, ipod USB connection, Aux 3.5mm input, and controls on steering wheel.
I know almost nothing about audio systems and installing them.
I like the features that are offered with the Kenwood DNX9990HD system.

    My questions are:
    1. If I have this system installed (once dash kits are available) will I need an amp or will this system operate just fine with my OEM speakers?
    2. Will I still be able to make a bluetooth connection to my iPhone to place calls and listen to music on the iPhone?
    3. I am unclear if my iPhone is connected via bluetooth, will the data connection be available to surf the internet and listen to pandora through the Kenwood.
    4. will I retain all the OEM control and access with the new Kenwood (bluetooth, USB, Audio aux, steering wheel controls, etc)?
    5. can the OEM back up camera be split or rerouted from the rear view mirror to the Kenwood or both?
    6. Is there any current functionality that I have now that I will loose after the install?
    7. What additional items will I need for the install other than tools, The Kenwood DNX9990HD, and the dash kit.
    8. Is this something that I should be able to install my self (plug and play) or should I have it installed for me? (like I said, I have very limited knowledge about audio systems, but I am rather resourceful and I am no stranger to general mechanical and electrical stuff. I just dont want to get stuck on a complicated issue or screw everything up.)

I look forward to you comments and help on this project, thanks in advance.

    STOCK!
    1. the HU has a built in amp and will work fine with your stock speakers
    2. the 9990 is bluetooth capable and provides d2p streaming
    3. if you dont have to connect your iphone physically then yes it is connected via bluetooth
    4. theres a harness you can purchase to retain steering wheel controls
    5. there is a rear view camera connection on the back of the unit, not sure if its the same but you can use it for the head unit, not sure about both
    6. not that i know of
    7. the steering wheel unit, harness etc...
    8. depends on how mechanically/electronically inclinded you are, there are plenty of write ups on here and other sites.

all of these answers could be found on kenwoodusa.com , its a great unit and deserves extra research especially if you plan on spending over $1k on it. hop on to crutchfield and theyll let you know what you need to install it as well as instructions. let us know when you pull the trigger on this unit, i'm sure you wont be disappointed!

Warhorseforever, i look forward to your comments on this if you anything else to add.
boostfed, thanks for the information and yes I will keep you guys updated on this project.

I originally wanted the EnTune system but I was not willing to wait for the vehicle to hit the dealership (Late July). I called several service depts and they all told me that you can not add EnTune to a 2012, it had to come from the factory with it already. Besides I figure I get a better unit and lower price with the after market anyway. All the EnTune vehicles I looked at had it at 1930.00 and all of them had the Toyoguard Elite 700.00+ That came to over 2600.00. The Kenwood installed would be just over 1400.00 and a little under that if I do it myself.

    Again thanks everyone.

Oh! You'll also need the kpc-ip 202 cable if you want to connect your iPhone to the head unit, make sure they're authentic, they run $25-$30.

I originally wanted the Entune system as well, but was told that because I had ordered a manual transmission on my 2012 TX|Pro that I couldn't get Entune. The dealer and I joked that it was too hard for the radio guy on the automatic transmission line to walk 10 feet and hand the radio guy on the manual transmission line the head unit.

It still seems pretty stunning to me that you can spend $35,000 on a truck in 2012 and not be able to get it with navigation (heck, even the Nissan people will give you a portable Garmin, if nothing else).

Whatever the case, I wanted a manual more than I wanted navigation, and I knew installing a new head unit would be easier than replacing a transmission, so I let them give me the stock unit. I will be getting the same head unit as you (the Kenwood), and already have the speakers, sub, amp and sub box, but am waiting on a proper 2012 head unit trim kit, since the 2011 dash is different. The 2011 kit will "fit," but it doesn't quite look right in the 2012.

Here's my thread on the progress on that front: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/216522-2012-specific-head-unit-install-kits.html

    Good luck.

glad to see more people going this route, i went this route as well and actually just got my kenwood 7190 in the other day, install should be within a week or so. these units are the fastest on the market yet with the best nav, not a bad deal for doing a little extra leg work after the purchase of the truck. whats included in your audio build? im at the end of my hoarding phase for my audio build and mr marv has been a huge help along the way, goodluck to you guys !

Sweet. Yeah, I've seen the Kenwoods in action and have been pretty impressed (it seems Pioneer is the only other worthwhile competitor... Alpine, Sony, et al. seem to only have one or two models that generally aren't on the same level in terms of features, user interface, etc.).

My build will be the Kenwood head unit with MB Quart components all-around (the rears are a component to coax kit), along with an MB Quart shallow-mount sub and 5 channel amp (4 channels in class a/b, one channel in class d). I went with the MB Quarts even though they aren't German-owned anymore because they had a 6x9" component kit that would be a straight fit for the front doors, and because I generally like the Quart sound (tight and clean0. They were also a fair price, and the JL stuff I heard at my dealer (generally mid-level) I didn't like.

Anyway, should be fun... new toys. :p
