Just got a call from the service manager and was told that two Toyota reps visited and said it seems this will be a noise I'll have to live with on my truck. It's normal for MY truck somehow.Seems some trucks seem to have it and some don't.I mentioned I didn't have that noise for the first two months.
    Anyway,I told them that's unacceptable..
I then was told Toyota will give me a 7/100 Platimum warranty because of my concern at no charge. That would include the extra $175 charge for the Supercharger coverage.
    Fair enough!:)

Well thats not too shabby.....but an unkknown noise that they obviously can't figure out sounds a bit shady. I guess if anything does go wrong they are liable anyways. Drive it like you stole it!

Yeah...I guess if you got the coverage and a good dealer then you don't have much to worry about. but I don't like un-identified noises that don't belong...extra warranty or not.

Best of lick man..and enjoy having your rig back

Vehicles make noises. Lots of them. Doesn't the supercharger whine drown most of it out?

    What does it sound like?

There are like two other threads on it...I think the jist is it's a rattle on shut down that wasn't fixed with a new supercharger unit.
And the whine drowning it out doesn't make it right...I threw a serp belt on a Dakota cause I turned up the radio...DUMB move on my part. Listen/Pay attention to your ride..It will save you at least some money...Maybe your life.

I have seen a lot of roots style compressors with impeller rattle on shut down - usually normall. If they dealer is giving you an extended warranty, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was a little older I would say nose bearing wear but its brand new right? Does it sound like something stuck in an In-Sink-Erator? (the younger crowd may refer - disposall).

Just a knock-knock sound on shutdown that I didn't have the first two months I had the unit.
Rumor has it that the '09 unit has a rear bearing issue.Bearings pressed in incorrectly or something.
It's nice to have the free coverage for 100K miles.
Though,I'll never see 100K in 7 years.I only do about 7K miles a year on the truck and no doubt will sell it at or before year 7.
I usually don't keep vehicles that long.
I feel better that the unit and truck itself is covered for 7 years.I'm happy with Toyota's decision to warranty the truck.

Yeah. If its just on shutdown, I totally wouldn't worry about it. Maybe chalk it up as a reminder of the sweetness.

I had a 351W bronco back in 1992 that I put a Paxton Supercharger on. If your only complaint is a slight rattle on shutdown and you have a 100,000 mile warranty to back it up I would be totally cool with that. My Bronco was nothing but a headache, engine surges, engine lights, belt slips.

I have been debating the TRD S/C for my tacoma since it's seems like you pretty much get reliability/warranty as if it was an OEM offering.

Only on shutdown. No same sounds while driving. In fact,no feel of any problem while driving.
Initially,I called Toyota and wanted my money back. That wasn't going to happen.
    I love the SC.It's a great mod.Really makes a difference in power,sound and feel.
I feel a lot better that the problems are on record and I'll have extra coverage if I should keep the truck for 7 years.

Yeah. I have spent time worrying about stuff like that in the past. Its better to just have fun with it and, when it breaks, fix it. Then have more fun.

True and will do.I'm picking it up in about an hour and will play a bit on the way home. It's been awhile.:D
You have an '08,so the SC for your truck is a bit different and I haven't heard of any real issues with those units. So you would be ok.
If you had an '09,I'd feel a bit differently.:)
You can always buy a discounted Toyota Platimum warranty from Troy Deitrich.

Haha. Is it a difference between the 08 and 09 pickup or was it a change in the supercharger from the 08 run to the 09 run?

Take the warranty and then start the process over again at another toyota dealer. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Reasons like these are the reason most dealers are reluctant to help people with their problems.

Not true at all...I don't trust an answer that says "Your truck does this...but not all of them do"
It's a machine built unit...There are tolerances for how it should operate. If it's standard for ALL roots type blowers-then they should say that.

Any rattle rattle from my engine gets found and fixed or found and explained in detail.
