I've been told by people that if a battery is expanded, it is going bad and should not be used. Like guy in this video states here:

    http://www.ehow.com/video_4757349_tell-need-new-cell-phone.html

Well, my phone is constantly going dead, and my battery is expanded, so i purchased a battery off ebay that was listed as being "new". Just got it today, and it is also expanded.

I called motorolla, and the lady says that this does not mean the battery is used, or going bad and that the battery should be fine.

    Any input guys?

my sisters phone recently wouldn't charge, first she thought it was the charger. got a new charger then charged the battery and was working for a couple days then stopped again... she got a new battery but it wouldn't charge. turns out she had to replace the whole phone

its the moto krzr, i do use the bluetooth with my nav unit in the car - which i know that drains it more, but as the days go on, the charges last less and less.

it's actually a warranty replacement phone thats less 6 months old

that might be the problem... cuz the only negative thing about the replacement phones are that they are "used" in some way. see if you can get another warranty replacement

What do you mean by expanded?
Are you referring to the battery actually expanding in physical size? Or some other technical term?
    (sorry, didn't watch video..at work).

My cell batteries go dead quicker than usual and that's because my cell phone stays in my purse in my locker. If I don't turn the phone off, the thing wastes battery power all day long 'searching for a signal'. By the time I get off work (8hours), the battery is dead. I gotta remember to turn the phone off everyday I go to work.

I wish the darn thing would go into sleep mode or power save mode or something. I have Verizon and apparently the phones don't do that (so I've been told).

expanded meaning it is not 100% flat. if you set it on a flat surface, it wobbles, or spins like a top.

I have full service at home & work, rarely do i search for signal

Just called batteries plus; the guy there said if the battery is bulging / expanded it should be replaced.

    Hmm.

I guess ill pay full price for a new battery and see what happens.

LiPo batteries can explode as seen here....They usually expand when damaged (excessive discharge can also cause the bulge as well as overcharging and impacts.)

People in the RC community know the dangers of Lipos and how they must be used safely..... or else!!

I have full service outise the building. The phone sits in my locker in the middle of a factory which is inside a *Severe Weather Shelter* - thick block walls & gawd knows what's in the ceiling.

The swollen battery is a known issue in the cellular industry.

We got a tech bulletin from LG that actually says to test the batteries by spinning them on a flat surface.

Motorola is having the same issues.

Car chargers are not good for batteries, and usually take 1 to 2 hrs to charge a dead battery.

So what is this "issue"? Is it just a useless battery? Is it liable to explode on my ear?
