Hey XXXX, Sorry to jump in but I just started paddling with the Mrs. and am looking for a good route. I had checked the Lake Lenape area previously but was not entirely sure where to put the kayaks in upstream. Do you mind sharing some insight from the trip? ie: Put in spot, length of trip, vehicle to relay at other end, etc. Thanks much! Dave.

    WTF????

    Drop in:
    Weymouth Furnace
2032 Weymouth Rd Mays Landing, NJ 08330
    39.516589,-74.780681

    Pick up:
    6126 Old Harding Hwy
    Mays Landing, NJ 08330
    39.456889,-74.738651

Personally I would use the GPS coordinates instead of the addresses. I would also suggest throwing the weypoints into Google Earth before heading out so you can see where you need to go.

Both of these spots are legal means to enter/exit the river and I have left my truck at both spots with no worries. You will need to drop a vehicle down river at the boat ramp. There is plenty of parking at both areas if you show up before 10am. Any later then that and you could be stuck parking along the road.

The trip is 4-7hrs depending on how many trees are down and how many times you stop. Last weekend it took us 6-1/2hrs but we did a good deal of 'floating' instead of paddling.

Be prepared and save some energy for the lake. The winds are always blowing north in your face. This is the most difficult part of the trip due to lack of current, boat traffic, and wind.

Another option that is a little easier to paddle (no lake/wind) but has many more narrow sections and a fierce current is Penny Pot to the Furnace. This section is very difficult in the begging due to brush and the narrow sections with fast current. Along this route you will encounter people renting from Palace Outfitters so this is a much more 'know' section of the river and you will see more people and houses. I would say this trip is 4-6hrs as well depending on trees down...etc.

    Drop in:
    Penny Pot
(no address) it's off 8th street near rt 73
    39.575279,-74.822078

    Pick up:
    Weymouth Furnace
2032 Weymouth Rd Mays Landing, NJ 08330
    39.516589,-74.780681

Neither spot above requires a 4x4.

I have a couple other secret spots that do require 4x4. I kinda save them for myself and don't give them to the public openly. If I get to know you or you come out to an event I would gladly share them.

For your own reference a good book to have is: Exploring the little rivers of NJ written by James and Margaret Cawley. It's been in publication since 1993 and was updated in 2003. It contains just about every river in NJ you would want to paddle. While the book doesn't provide exact drop spots if you use the book along with Google maps you can figure out good spots.

went out around 2 and then almost immediately got hit with a pretty intense storm. rain, lighting, thunder, bay got real choppy.

that would've been cool to see though.
