I have about 90k miles , and the temp gauge sits at a little over half, no matter the driving conditions. It does not move once the motor is warmed up. Is this normal? I just replaced the water pump, timing belt, radiator hoses, coolant, and t stat; thinking that it would read like a normal temp gauge (just below half). My wife bought it new in 04 and had this problem since. She took it in a few times and the dealer said it was normal for the 1 gen tacos. I just got off the phone with the dealer and he said the same thing. Is any one else have this problem?

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I wouldn't worry about it at all. Seems normal to me. As long as its somewhere in the middle, that should be fine. Mine has always been a hair above the middle, and mine has 217,000 miles.

It's normal. As long as you flush your coolant every 2 years or 30K miles you should be fine.

The behavior you describe is absolutely normal on a Tacoma.

There is no 'normal / standard' reading for a temp gauge. I've seen OEM temp gauges that consistently read higher and lower than the one-half mark.

I've gone all winter without any fan at all, and my guage always sits right there just above half. I lost the fan 'cause I had to replace the fan clutch, but the aftermarket fan clutch wouldn't disengage. The fan just kept roaring. So I put another one on. Same thing. So I put on a different brand. Same thing. So I said fuck it and just removed the fan for the winter. Now that the sun is starting to make itself known again, I'm gonna hafta find an electric fan setup.

I called the dealer ship today and they said it was normal and only with the 1 gen. I'm just worried if i try to sell her someone might say it is not normal. Thanks for all the info, it makes me feel a lot better.
