Clutch start cancel button for manual

Hey I don't need no stinkin' navigation! I got things all memorized. Pfft.

But I DID learn that my car has voice command. My buddy that works at the dealership told me. And all this time I thought it was the phone button. (That I don't know how to use)

 

Somewhat related . . . in my teen years I worked on a Christmas tree farm where the owner had a dilapidated 1960's era International flatbed/dump truck that was used once a year during the harvest season. I started driving this thing around the steep hills of central PA when I was 14. The hydraulic brake lines had rotted away about 30 years before and the floor pans were gone (i.e. you could see the driveshaft spinning about 2 feet under you). The only way to stop the thing was to shut off the engine while in gear, or apply the emergency brake and wait until it came to a stop on flat ground. The emergency brake was a clamp that grabbed the driveshaft, and did almost nothing to stop the truck, or even hold it in place for that matter. It was likely highly rusted and barely able to move, but if the e-brakes that you're talking about on the jeeps were of the same design, then I'd agree that we've come a long way towards making e-brakes more reliable.

Finally tried using the CSC button in 4lo in a parking lot (safely) just to get a feel for how it works. Quite remarkable! I definitely see how it would be very useful for getting up a steep hill now.

Because of driveline tension in 4lo. Not a big deal if going straight for a short distance though.

 

Oh ok, yeah, I can see where that could be an issue. I only went like 10 feet, though. Basically I pushed the button, started it, the engine caught like a second later, and then I stopped once I realized that the engine had caught.

If you're trying to crank up a hill, would you hold down the ignition to keep the starter cranking or would you just do this to get you started and then press down the gas?

 

Once the engine kicks over and starts - you're back on engine power so release the ignition key and use the gas pedal. Pretty much as you'd expect. You might need to hold the key in the "start" position a hair longer since the engine is under load but at any rate less than a second.

 

when you use this button the light stays on and the switch wont shut it of....why is that? does this button affect driving or just starting?

 

it just stays on until you turn the truck completely off. no negative effect unless the button light burns out...

 

Hmm could've tried this at Moab, killed the truck and rolled backwards a good amount. Think I had a couple people scared. I'm hesitant to put that much torque and load on the starter/ring gear. Yikes. I'd rather and have used the e-brake pop. Good thing it worked out or I'd have totaled the Taco going up hell's gate. I guess I could have used the button there though, probably would have been worth it.

I need a crawl box.
