From what I was reading a few weeks ago they got rid of that rule about 5 years ago. Not 100% sure but it may have been because of Jesse James's 1st TT that he built with Porter

    He lied to you then

"Under the hood is 750 horsepower (not from a BMW motor, from GM, despite the engine covers)"

Another article I read had this to say:
Since Trophy Truck Rules specify the engine has to be at least based on a production block, it’s a safe assumption this isn’t your average Joe’s pumped-up LS1.

After all of that body and frame work, a BMW V-8 engine was shipped off to Denzo for a complete build up. This custom-built V-8 produces a massive 725 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. All of this combined with a plethora of custom suspension and braking work netted the team one nasty, dune-ready X6.

After reading this I really wanted to know, so I had to ask and Guys like Fish, David Perrault, Dave Tounget and many others have said its an LS engine and not a BMW in the X6.
I'm gonna go with what those guys have to say considering what they've done in the sport

BJ lost the race this weekend by 11 seconds. Here's him at the 1st turn

It was posted a few days ago that the problem would be where the upper shock mount is. What does he have planned for the upper mount?

Having them in the front of the axle helps keep down axle wrap.
