My girlfriend is getting a Frontier, makes my Tacoma look bad...

We still have her 10 year old Frontier. The fact it was so reliable is why she wanted to get another. She is not a resale oriented person, nor am I. We drive our vehicles into the ground.

Don't expect it to be like a 1st gen Frontier. Not the same. Hopefully Nissan fixed the strawberry milkshake issue with the auto transmission cooler (assuming its auto), the fuel sending unit (some have had it replaced multiple times), and of course the timing chain issue. Guides were going bad before 100K miles.

Don't get me wrong, my 2nd gen Frontier was good to me and I almost purchased a 2012 Frontier, but I am so glad I have my Tacoma instead.

Got rid of my 99 Pathfinder for my 12 Tacoma, 13 years and not one complaint or problem. I just got tired of it and wanted the utility of a truck again. The Nissan 3.whatever V6 is bullet proof and one of the best power plants ever developed. Prior to this I had a 95 Maxima (and 97 Dakota which was a huge mistake), the Maxima was a luxurious 350Z. Bad ass sedan.

I compared the Tacoma and Frontier extensively before making my decision. Back seat in the DC , pricing, and fuel economy were the big deciders....Tacoma won them all. Aesthetics of the Tacoma beat out the Frontier but looks take a back seat in my decision, I tend to keep my vehicles for the long run and I'm not hung up on looks over reliability.

I'm sure some like the Frontier over the Tacoma, I'm sure their decision was the right one for them. Freedom of choice us a good thing.

That trans issue had to do with the automatic trans oil cooler built into the radiator. They leaked coolant into the oil cooler and ruined the transmission. Should've been a recall, all they needed to do was revise the radiator and reinstall. A radiator is cheaper than a transmission.

I stomped on the brakes with the 2012 going downhill today, and they're a little bit lacking IMO. They may be the best-in-class, but I'd like some more braking power. Discs are better than drums all the time, should have rear discs.

I looked at both the TRD sport and PRO 4X when i bought mine, alot of the Canadian reviews were rating the Nissan better than the Toyo. The deciding factor for me was that the PRO 4X only came with a 4 1/2' box and my TRD has a 6'. If not for that i would be driving a Nissan...have to admit i miss the Leather, Sunroof and Comfort of the PRO 4X

The Pro/4X package should have a separate transmission cooler like Tacomas with the tow package, right? Unless your wife is krazie, the truck shouldn't have an issue with coolant mixing with the ATF.

The double cab short bed Tacoma looks waaay better than the Frontier's DCSB. It's big and blocky body with a 4-1/2' little bed no thanks!

X2, some people are all about how much a truck can ride like a luxury car though. as long as i have A/C and a CD player im good. could give two fucks about leather, power windows, power door locks, sunroof, heated seats, heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, navigation, or keyless entry. once again, its a pickemup truck, not a buick...

I don't think there is a separate transmission cooler. I believe powertrain wise it is no different than the other Frontiers.

Tacoma......much higher resale value in the used truckmarket....

Personal preference. I used to drive a "near-luxury" sedan with power heated leather seats, sunroof, automatic climate control, CD changer, power tilt wheel... I was using those features maybe once a year. To me, the Taco TRD's content level is "just right".

BTW, if you really want rails in your bed, just buy them from trailer supply stores and bolt them in using the bed bolts:

Yes I have, I drove one when looking to buy. Started out with the Nissan because of the options and price point. I didn't like it. Seats were uncomfortable and the stereo sounded like sh*t. Went and looked at the Tacoma's and after driving one my decision was made. I did lose leather and sunroof for the same price but I knew I'd be happier with the Taco.

Not trying to put down on them though. I had 2 Nissan Hardbody trucks and they were great. Never gave me any trouble.
