How bad would it be if...

...I didn't reinstall TPSM in my new wheels. I regularly check my tire pressure and find the pressure sensors to be completely useless and they do not display an actual tire pressure. Is there a problem with this I should be aware of?

 

No problem other than the annoying TPMS light you will have on the dash.

 

^^^yep......only the annoying light. you can make a pvc capsule for the sensors.......keep it in your truck to keep the light out, if you wanted to. just gotta have a 6 inch section of pvc, 3 end caps, some pipe dope and a valve stem. put the sensors inside and air it up....voila...light out!

 

well i'm going to be taking my dash apart to resolder som LEDs to change the gauge color from the vomit orange, can't I just disconnect it?

 

haha or unsolder it altogether if i cant disconnect a wire

 

you may be able to just pull out the led bulb and be done with it....not really sure.

IDK what to do but I would advise that you do something to keep that dang dash light off! My dad did not get the sensors out of my stock wheels b4 he sold them so I am currently living with the only problem with my truck.... That dang light.

 

Pipe bombing from a car isn't a common technique...I wouldn't worry about it TOO much. There ARE lots of other places to hide those tho...

If it was me, I would go with Will's idea. Make a small PVC capsule, with a valve steam. Cap one end using some good pipe glue. Then throw in your tpms sensors, and cap the top with your valve steam attached. Air your pipe bomb up to 32 psi or so, and then put it in the storage compartment under your rear seats. Be really careful not to over inflate the capsule or your could possibly blow the top of.

IMO the tpms sensors are worthless. Anyone with half a brain will know immediately if their tires become dangerously low. If the tires are moderately low, this can easily be determined by simply taking a look around the truck, which should be done regularly regardless. On the other hand, I had two of my tpms sensors damaged by a bone head tire guy about a year ago, and the light would drive me nuts for about 6 months. Now I hardly ever notice it, but still would much rather it not be there.

That sure would work, just be sure to use a desoldering tool. You do not want solder to fall on any of the circuits.

Just curious, are you changing out the amber leds for a different color, or do you have some other kind of project going on in the dash?

Can't you just reset the sensor when the new tires are on? I thought I read something about that button under the steering column. Or is it just set for standard tire pressure?

You can if the new wheels have the same tpms sensors. I am not sure of the exact situation degerm is in, but I would assume he went from steel wheels to alloy wheels. The sensor neck angle is different from steel to alloy wheels, which will in turn require new tpms sensors. Although, people have been known to rig the sensors where they will work by flipping them upside down. If new sensors are installed, then you will have to have the dealer reprogram your tpms module.

 

Close! I am going from the stock steel to the stock FJ alloys. What is a desoldiering tool exactly? I am switching out the Amber for white or blue. I was fine with it but since someone said they hated their I have slowly grown to the point where I cant stand it haha
