Fire Fighters, LEO, Drs., Etc.....

Thanks i'm in the background now so we'll see how it goes. I know I got at least one more fire season. I dont know if it will be as fun as last year with the lightnig fires but i'm sure the hell gonna try.

 

Ya your wife deffinatley has to stand behind you when it comes to these types of jobs. That sucks about all that crap that happened to you man, I feel for ya big time.

HaHAHa!!! Yeah better be sure to wear my hard hat. Oh yeah, we had another single vehicle roll-over this afternoon 1 mile farther then the one yesterday on the same highway!!! It was weird. This person today was in much better shape though. He actually signed a patient refusal and called it good.

 

Man those are th weirdest calls ever. We go through streaks like that where you get all the calls on one side of our district. At least this guy wasnt in bad shape.

Do you guys, hell any firefighters anywhere, have to wear reflective vests on all federaly funded roads too? Just curious if that is nation wide or only state wide, cuz it is CA.

 

Yeah those nice bright green tear-away vests? Yup, we have to wear those too. Just got some in a few months back actually. I have yet to wear mine. Been on a couple calls were I should have been but didn't.

 

At my Dept, if you get hit by a car and you're not wearing either a vest or your bunker coat, you are SOL. No worker's comp for you!

Paramedic. 1 year and over 1500 clinical hours... ugh..
Until I finish medic school I get to be on the engine every shift, when I turn in my medic cert, I'll only get to see the engine once every 3 shifts.

We don't have EMT-I's in Florida.
I'm a FF/EMT-B but per my department protocols, I'm allowed to start IV's and insert Combitubes or my new favorite.. the King airway.

 

I've been hearing a lot of good things coming from those King LTs.

Paramedics hey? Good luck with that. I think your EMT-B are like our EMRs. Where as EMT-I are our EMTs. And paramedics are EMT-Ps.

Ya, we have reflective striping on our new turnouts and yet we still have to wear them. I mean I do kinda understand the concept but at the same time I think we have plenty of reflective strips. I dont even think ours can fit over our coats.

Ya, I can almost gurantee that we are SOL too here in california. Dude I dont know about not seeing the engine all the time, I would go crazy. lol. I'm sure you guys will have fun though. Do you guys roll a medic unit to all your fires?

If you are talking to me as well, our department does not provide ALS services nor do we run ambulances. Ambulances out here are from a private company. We respond as first responders and have a number of basics and intermediates on our department, no paramedics.

 

Sorry, I shoulda been more clear, it was to Hardcoreheehaw, but we have only one medic on our dept. so I know what you mean. All the ambulances here are from the hospital or a private, I was just curious about a big city, I like the fact of having an ambulance on the scene of a fire.

 

Oh yeah if there is a structure fire, there is always an ambulance on scene for rehab.

 

We only usually do that if it is really hot at our volunteer dept, but at my CAL FIRE seasonal station we usually have an ambulance at every fire because we have one in the town and they roll with us just in case, mainly cuz their bored off their ass.

Thanks for all your appreciation and support for us.(Fire,LEO,Drs.,dispatchers,etc.). I've been with the ARFF station here in Hawaii for about 12 years now. It's sad that our states economy is so bad, that they dropped our manning down to 5 men per shift. (we used to be 8 man). They have a freeze on all the positions, so hopefully the governor opens them up so we can get our manning back. Right now we have one Capt., one Lt., two drivers, and one f/f who t/a up to driver. So we actually have no firefighters to do rescue if a plane was to go down. We just have to wait for our mutual aid support, or pull two drivers off their trucks to do rescue. How bad is that huh? But I guess we can't complain, at least we have jobs. Anyway, thanks again everyone for supporting us in all your ways.
