I regear anytime I increase tire size over 10%. Usually brings my mpg back in line with stock.

power gain... almost none... mpg gain... almost none...

you lift your truck and slam it on huge tires with stock gears... you risk grenading a trans and your entire driveline... is it worth it? you answer that.. would you rather pay 1200 in gearing or 4k for a new trans and driveline because you wanted to be a moron and half ass a truck? you tell us.

when you regear, you are just relieveing that stress and bringing it back up to a almost stock situation... which is what the truck was designed for.

I know this has been asked in a few other places but KROOKS your truck looks to have a similar lift to one Im looking at with a 6" lift and 35"s do you know how tall your truck is? Im trying to figure out if it would fit in the garage and in the parking structure at work

I went ahead (awhile back) and re-geared even after researching the shit out of this topic. Many said ya or na. I have the 6 in lift and 33x12.50x18's, I did notice a diffrence (more power) in the take off as well at speeds more so on the hwy. As far as the MPG's, at first I didn't really see a change but now that my truck just hit 10k miles I avg about 16 mpg. BTW, I re-geared to 4.10's

    Hope this helps

In our trucks, 4:10's are the perfect gearing for 33's. :)

I thought 4:30's were actually the best for 33's, although you cant find them anywhere ?????

    I'm happy w/ the 4:10's though

What kind of gas mileage are you getting with 4:10's?

arrgggg!!! people that dont read into it piss me off... you all need to listen... ive been doin this for a long damn time and there is a reason that they make higher gear sets! you add that much more rotating mass to a vehicle and you start straining your driveline. normally if you have a truck stock on 28's through 31's, then you can step up to a 33 and you will notice if your driving stick you have to feather the clutch a bit longer on beginning take off... thats because upon stepping up... you have decreased the amount of torque to rotating mass. same amount of torque as your stock 28 or 31 to something 2 inches bigger around... may not seem like much to you... but people like the people on here sayin to throw it on 35's and leaveit stock, your the reason i make so much damn money as a mechanic.

when you destroy your driveline... you come to people like me because you didnt listen to the mechanincs that are warning you of what will happen if you dont do it right. you ever hear the motto do it right the first time so you dont have to go back and do it again later? this is esp. where that applies. or... go for it.. and be sure to pm me when you break your shit and ill be more than happy to give you a tacomaworld discount at my shop while im replacing your trans and driveline.
