Frame Issues

Our 2002 Toyota failed State Inspection and had to be taken off the road, but the Dealership that inspected it had previously told us that the truck would "last a while", until the parts came in. Well, after failing inspection, they told us to bring it to the garage. We did, and was told that we would get a replacement vehicle. We did, but my son, the owner,can't drive the rental because he is under age according to the rules of the rental company. Then, to make matters worse, we only have limited miles on the replacement(rental) vehicle. And, to top that off, we had to pay a security deposit at the rental place. Needless to say, we are not pleased, and to get anything done, we have had to be on the phone almost constantly in the past 2 days. Toyota Customer Care says they will get back to us in 1 business day. They have been super nice, but not much has been resolved at this point. We are wondering if anyone else has had similar problems. Because our Toyota is a 2002 model, it is not elgible to be bought back, but only the frame replaced. This is also a concern of ours, that the vehicle won't be right after this happens. Any input is appreciated.

 

If you trust the dealer that's doing the work you shouldn't have a problem. I'm a Toyota tech and just finished a frame swap on a 2002. It takes about 2 to 4 days depending on the shops work load. Its not that bad a deal, you are getting about 10 grand in parts and labor when it all done. Here are some pics. Don't worry, it looks worse than it is.

 

Whew I would be glad they are taking care of it, chill get him a pinto to drive until than Toy will take care of you there is alot of paper work on such stuff Save some for the second generation!!!

 

I should be glad, I guess, but I am not glad that this has happened. And, as far as chilling, I don't "chill" when it comes to my children. And, I want him in a safe vehicle, until the Toyota is fixed. A pinto wouldn't suffice. Thanks for your input just the same. I know that Toyota is charting new waters so to speak, and that all things to be considered aren't known ahead of time. Not sure what you mean about lots of paperwork, or about saving some for the second generation. I was just venting, because I am upset, and dealing with this is something I don't need at the present time. Thanks anyways.

 

Thank you for your help. As far as trusting the dealership, I am not sure on that either, but we have no choices. I do appreciate your pictures and trying to ease my mind a bit. Thanks. I guess we will just have to see what happens.

I will explain a few things on my post for the ones that just haven't figured life out completely yet...and thats alright.

When I told Momma to chill, simply be glad Toyota is taking care of it. They are in "no way" obligated to do so, but as a consumer it would be wise to act and they are. Time for paper work, this is one of the largest Automobile corporations in the world, yes the world. If you think they are going to pull your truck in and do 10k swaps over frame job in two days...nope. I had a 2005 Yukon Denali in 05 with 15k miles on it and it had a piston slap that was embarrassing to drive it around. I went down to GMC talked very kind and showed humbleness and gratitude. You attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. I was able to get a 12K engine replace for free they had it for 5 weeks but they took care of it. It was all about paperwork. They just don't throw around money and large ticket items like this for kicks. I'm sure two to three different people had to sign off on your job. I am one of the very few that got GM to replace the engine. What do you think could have happened if I went in there with both barrels a blazing? They probably would show me the door.

Chill out relax if they give you a car to drive Bingo Johnny what did proud momma win, be glad they didn’t even need to do that.

As the drive pinto car that was a playing around statement should have said B210 instead.

As the save some for the second generation? That is don’t spoil a good thing Toyota is trying to accomplish here. If we as owners of 05-09 Tacoma’s have issues down the road give us a chance to get ours taken care of don’t scare them away from doing a good thing with abusive speech and hatred, show consideration and patience something very few understand in our world today. Please Proud Momma take this a sincere gesture we all feel for you with the problems you have and all who think my words are kind and true please let me know and if I’m out of line I can accept it as well…yours truly Husker Jim not to be confused with jimbo. Okay, thanks. I am glad that Toyota is taking care of it, but I do feel that they should. My boys have always owned Toyotas, and we do like them, and will probably buy another one if the option is given on the older model one.
I don't expect my children to drive fancy cars, by no means.
Nor, do I want to "scare them away from any other customer". I just don't see that it being a replacement vehicle, that the mileage should be limited. Guess I am just being difficult.
I don't think I was abusive, or even that I showed hatred. I have no hatred, and have been nothing but nice to any of the people involved. I am, however, losing my patience. We have a replacement vehicle, that has to sit in the driveway, and that is doing no good at all. Sorry if I offended anyone, just did a search and found the website, and wanted some input. Forgive me. Nothing more to say.
