Depending in the area you are from if you have rust I would replace the shackles bushings and ubolt also shocks due to rust but if you have tons of miles on the stock leafs and factory parts just replace them.

You should never re-use the u-bolts as they stretch during assembly and use. I would replace all of the hardware while it is apart, it is not that expensive and will allow you to start fresh.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Spray everything down with PB blaster a few days before you disassemble.

It might not matter in Texas, but you might want to consider the greaseable bolts from Wheelers. They will alloy you to grease all of the bushings/bolts with your regular maintenance.

If your going to replace the leaf packs, go with the 5 leaf...you might as well get the extra lift, then put the 5100s on the front to raise it up also.

    Look at build!
Or you can save yourself the money for a whoe new pack and "refurbish" or re-build your stock ones for under $100 with the same results!

In addition to the U-bolts, as suggested, definitely plan on replacing the front hanger/spring bolts. I just installed my lift and hadn't planned on that originally. Turns out the original bolts were completely seized and required varying combinations of torch heat, WD40 (didn't have any PB Blaster,) sledge hammer persuasion, and Sawzall aggression to remove. I then greased the new ones (OEM replacements from the dealer) during installation to hopefully prevent it from being so bad should I ever have to do it again.

Not sure about the Wheelers, but the thickness of my OME leaf pack dictated replacement of the U-bolts since the original ones barely provided enough length to get the nuts threaded on the bottom side. The 7 1/2" replacement U-bolts from Toytec did the trick.

    Good luck!

I just did my 98 in WV with the wheeler's 4 pack and 880s with shocks on the front. I did not need shackles, but was very glad I bought the front spring bolts since they almost had to be torched off. Wheelers has all the parts--bolts Ubolts and springs--you will need.

Give Wheelers a call, they will tell you everything that you will need for the job. They are very helpful.

Yea, I just got the 5-pack from wheelers too. You will NEED U-bolts, and the Eye-bolts for the front of the spring (usually siezed in there, and will have to be cut out). Wheelers will guide you through it.

I agree that you should go with the 5-pack though.. I didnt get as much lift out of it as people are saying, I only got about 3/4" lift, and they're a better stronger spring.

Definitely get new front eye bolts along with new U bolts. My front eye bolts were seized in very bad and had to be cut out.

Here's a couple of pics I took a while ago, shows the height you'll be sitting at in the rear w/ the 5-leaf pack and stock shackles. Note I've got 1/5" lift up front as well w/ OME 880s.

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
A sawzall will come in handy if the shackle bolts won't budge.
