I did my first 6 oil changes prior to changing the original washer. Once they start to show wear, I replace them. I have a washer on hand everytime I do a oil change.

Iv always done my own oil changes but when I bought my taco it came with free oil changes for the first year or sumthing. Well I didnt even end up using all my free ones up before some dik at the dealership(western slope Toyota) forgot to put oil back in it and drove it around front for me to take it home! Good thing I don't trust anyone and checked it rite there before I left.

or you can save up the 1/2 quarts and do a flush every couple changes with the left over. I usually pour 1/2 a new one through. Even without the engine running it's amazing how much crap 1/2 quart brings with it.

I do my own because honestly the fewer folks who are working on my truck, the less i have to worry about going wrong and holding them accountable for. And it earns a few man points

Just changed mine today. Rainy day here in PA, so I crawled under the truck. I had my 30k service done at the dealer, and made specifically clear I wanted and would pay extra for the synthetic oil, since I had changed to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 on first change.

Sure enough, when I checked my fresh oil level at home after the service it was clear I didn't get synthetic. I know better, just got a long old lesson re-taught.

    Hi all.

I do my own because included in the service are items above and beyond what is included in the Toyota oil filter service.

    Cheers
    Ray.

The conventional oil is brown-ish even when fresh out of the barrel, the synthetic is almost clear, so that it is hard to even read on the dip stick. As soon as I noticed, I checked my invoice for service, and I was not charged extra for the synthetic, even though it was clearly listed on the work statement. I suspect the dealership passes vehicle off from mechanic who does the 30k service to the highschool kids in the quick change bay for the oil change. Actually reading the service order is probably optional for the ones that can even read.
