Basically grew up on El Cap and San V. Fished tournaments for years with my pops, that was awesome. I may or may not have fished the pits on occasion when I lived on El Monte rd. Those years are a blurr. No doubt I learned how to huck a truck on Dairy rd though, Doug, I know you know what spot I am talking about:D

    Hey superstition experts.

im going to camp there this weekend with my dad and I mapped out a couple easy looking trails to take:

    Superstition.zip

If you have time please review the trails and advise if there are any hazards or extremely soft shit I should know about (we'll be alone without 4x4).

    Thanks!

Yep & you best not be hauling ass when you pass Osterkamps dairy (I think that was the name) that road is still rough as hell in spots.

Shit I worked at el cap/hodges/otay for the concession for about 4 years,

actually it was Lakeside Marine that held the contract with city, I did outboard repair at the lakes & in the shop too doing warranty work on new Mercs & Mariners, but damn the fishing opportunities I had, my day would start at about 3 am (hey someone had to pre fish it for the tourney guys,

Western Bass always had the biggest tournaments tho'...

Some days I'd go to San V & fish off the bank by the gap with Murphy, he was a really nice guy & even went with Larry Botroff a couple times in the shock boat

Superstition is full of soft patches.....

You may be better off going 20 minutes down the road to Ocotillo.

Yeah there's definitely many random soft patches. I mean with speed, you can easily get through, but it's just hard to tell sometimes until you're in it. You really shouldn't have any problems though if you keep up the speed. The routes you listed are all very possible in 2wd and are a crap load of fun.

I mapped a trail that goes from wheelers road to Ocotillo airport, think that could be a pretty fun trail.

I also mapped a loopy trail (just under 40 miles) that starts out of Ocotillo airport and goes up Fish Creek Wash, and around to the west, then up North and dumps back into the 78 about 7 miles west of ocotillo Airport:

That run looks like a damn good time! That place gets twisty back there!I've always been so curious of all the many trails off the 78: Quarts wash, Lizard wash etc. Just never have anyone to go down one with me when I want to give them a shot.

If you are trunning a loop from Superstition to the North side back West into Ocotillio avoid the area below. It is typically dry however the water table comes up to right onder the surface. If the ground starts moving like a waterbed it's too late

The only video I have is fom a couple weeks later when we went back to try to find it to give coordinates to insurance company and tow folks. The vid just shows the ground moving around to proove that it was something out of the ordinary that caused the loss. I dont know how to post vids though. When we sunk it, it was getting dark and we didnt know exactly where we were. We just sorta walked North as best as we could figure but there was no moon, we ran into 78 about 3am

Its called San Sebastain Marsh. Its a closed zone but not marked well unless you are in a main wash. Just East of Poleline, South of 78 and West of the Bombing Range. It is the home of the endangered desert pupfish, dont get me started on the bullshit I had to deal with on that one, the greenies had a hard on for me big time. I had to call BLM to get a report for the insurance co., no luck, all they did is tell the enviromental activist groups about it
