I happened to see this posted and I jumped on it. The truck is very solid and runs like a champ. The interior is thrashed, but I am having it completely redone. Its currently at the upholstery shop.

Here's my question and I will post this as a new thread: Where to start?

To be a little more specific, its actually has 319,000 miles on it, but still runs great. The transmission doesn't seem to have any problems...everything seems to be working just fine. Usually I take the road of "if its not broken, don't fix it". But with 319,000 miles, I feel like I should be replacing something. Where should I start?

Just so you know. My intention was to buy a High mileage 4x4 Manual Extended Cab and drop a brand new engine and tranny in. But since this one is still running, I feel like I should drive it till it dies, then put new stuff in. What do you guys think?

 

I wish I could help with preventative maintenance, but I'm new.. either way, congrats on a nice find!

 

drive it till it dies. save up your money for a nice engine/tranny/axles whatever you want while all the parts are still working, then put in the nice stuff later. check the frame and repair it or reinforce it if necessary. I bet it's taken a beating over that many miles

 

I would suggest start with the fluids... its basic and simple but do a flush of all fluids. (front diff, rear diff, transfer case, tranny, coolant, etc.) then I would suggest a tune up. from there check all electrical, make sure that all the cables and wires still look in good shape. Other than that, just enjoy it as much as u can haha

 

previous owner has had it since 80,000 miles. He said he religously changed all the fluids...but didn't have records. He said other than changing fluids, he hasnt done anything else. So after fluids comes what? Should I go for the clutch? Maybe timing belt? Plugs? Who knows...

Oh, the frame is perfect. No rust anywhere.

 

if you dont feel the clutch slipping or smell it burning you should prob just leave it alone. But it wouldnt hurt to check the plugs, timing belt would prob be good too.

if he hasn't done anything to it in the 240k miles that he's had it...i'd definitely at least check the brakes. It's probably time for new pads, rotors, calipers...maybe even brake lines. I'd check it all to be safe.

If it's the 3.4, timing belt and water pump, if you can't verify when it was last done. What kind of mileage are you getting with it now? Awesome find.

 

Replace fluid for both diffs, flush colant, CHANGE tranny fluid NOT FLUSH, change oil, check all belts for cracks and loosness, check the shocks for leaks, check the engines compression, check the exhahsr components for leaks and wear. Besides that, its ready to rock! You def came up on this deal!!!
