    Rant On ~

I'm elected to shop for mom's next used car (drew short straw).
I ask a "friend" who has his wholesalers license to BOLO for a good used car.
He calls & says he has a beauty, 06 one owner w/ only 17k that I can go take a look at, drive & take overnight.
The dealership (high end Honda/BMW) took it in on a trade, one of their personal friends owned it. (of course).
They're wholesaling it because its a Chevy & doesn't mix with their exotic (their words) pre-owned inventory.
Car does look exceptionally clean (too clean?)
Start it up, a steering wheel makes a clunk turning it. Uh oh.
Am told its probably low tire pressure. yeah right.
And what's the big deal if it needs a couple hundred dollars work? Its got only 17 thousand miles, is 2006! & a steal @ 9500!! (His words)
I thinking why does a car with only 17 thousand miles & a 2006 make that noise? Mine doesn't???? Or my 97 Honda w/ 120k
I want to get it check out. Oddly can no longer take overnight & must act fast! (Run Judy Run!)

Get home run carfax on VIN, Find out....
Its a freakin rental turn in from NY! Sold with 14700 miles, latest owner is its 3rd!!!

I hate f'in (sorry I'm pissed) used car sales people even when they are friends right now.
Cannot wait to see him tomorrow! :bananadead:
    Rant off ~

What is a good way to find Mom a car? Her budget is around 10k??

I had a guy at a Chevy Dealership that was pretty cool. He ended up leaving the industry.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
that's how I bought my daily driver Mazda... I like dealing with individuals better -- craigslist auto sellers are careful... so probably cash transactions only, etc.

Used car dealers can be a shady group. Disclaimer: I'm sure there are good ones though.

It sounds like you're not overly confident when it comes to mechanics. So search Craigslist, do a preliminary check of the car (look for obvious stuff lile oil leaks) then take someone knowledgable to do another check. Or pay some reputable organisation like AAA to do a thorough check.

I had Rick Hendrick in Raleigh NC sell me a 1996 corvette. It started making noises and I had to take it to another dealer and found out it had been totaled and rebuilt by Rick Hendricks body shop. They avoided putting it on a salvage title by doing the work off the books. I was pissed to say the least. The dealership told me to go pound sand and would do nothing to make it right. I lost my ass on that deal as I whenever I tried to trade it in at any dealership near raleigh they would call Hendricks dealership to try to wholesale it to him. They would always tell whomever I was trying to trade it into to run away from the car because it had been totaled and rebuilt. To this day I have hated Rick Hendrick and would kick him in the balls if I ever met him. He didnt sell me the car but it was his name on the door. He should have answered my calls and made it right. Makes me want to drive back to NC and burn his Fn place down I get so pissed thinking about it.

Yea yea it was my fault for being gullible and not having it checked out better before i bought. I was younger and dumber then. I still hate that F&%Ker and everything he stands for though. Fn tax cheaten, cancer fakin, piece of shit.

well I really try not to live my life that way today especially with my friends...
but realize some have a different creed which is ok. Just won't do any business in the future with these two ....

Wow sorry that happened to you. Life lessons learned, I got some valuable info today myself.

I'm curious what type of Chevy it is. $9500 is no steal for an '06, even with low miles. I have a UCD license and buy vehicles at auction every week for my taxi fleet, you can pick up an '06 Impala for like $5-6K, Malibu for less than 5. $9500 will buy you a decent '08 model wholesale.

And the clunk is possibly a prematurely bad ball joint, or worst case scenario perhaps a steering rack. Unless some used car tech left the lug nuts loose on a wheel of course.
