Bad smells from vents!

I have a 1999 tacoma. Really bad smells (moldy mildewy) coming from vents. Dealer says this model does NOT have a cabin filter to change. Have sprayed disinfectant through system numerous times. Only smells when fan is on. Checked floors and carpets, not wet. I'm out of answers. HELP! This smells is unbearabable.

Is it only when the A/C is on? That sweaty gym sock smell?

What I have done in the past is make a solution of water and essential lavender oil and spray under the cowl at such areas. Not only does this deodorize the air, but lavender is also anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal so it kills all the crap.

 

What proportions did you use (water/lavender oil)? 50/50? 70/30? I have Lysoled the crap out of it and it helped a lot, but you seem to have a better solution.
