bump steer,loose feel in steering 2012

I have a 12 dcsb 4x4 steering has always felt not quite right, lots of bump steer,feels loose. Truck is stock, except 265/75\16 duratracs on MB tko wheels. Read alot about positive caster will that help with stock suspension?

 

First thing to do is take it to the dealer for an alignment, especially since it's under warranty. If they say it's normal then ask to test another one. It could be that it's simply not up to your expectation. These trucks are a little loose.

 

My truck felt like this the moment I bought it. The dealership claims it to be normal. I took a few more Tacomas out for test drives and they did feel the same, especially on gravel roads.

 

Same here and the dealer told me the same thing.

 

Mine doesn't feel like that...I have a sport. What do you have? I think the sport is the tightest because they set it up for the road.

 

Maybe if you compare to a car, otherwise I have to disagree with you 100%. Not trying to argue for the sake of an argument, it's just my opinion based on experience that the these trucks handle much better than average for pickups.

OP, make sure your tires aren't overinflated. Too often someone will inflate to the tires max rated pressure, where you should have around 30 front and 28 rear for your tires.

And check the rear suspension for loose ubolts.

 

Mine is just a SR5 4x4. I came from a 07 chev 2500hd which was way tighter steering than this. Plus the suspension was way stiffer on it also.

 

The sport is a trim package. You have the same suspension as the Trd OR

 

Mine is lifted with coilovers cranked to about 2-1/2" so the rough ride pulls the truck a little when going over bumps, making it feel like bumpsteer. I think that is more because the digressive nature of the coilover and larger tires.

Around corners though my truck handles really well for a truck. Especially a lifted one. I replaced the sway bar bushings with polys and that helped a lot. I would imagine this is where bumpsteer is most noticeable, when you corner and hit a bump.

 

Different front springs and larger wheels with lower profile tires. It will handle better on the road.

Also have 4 leaf springs in the rear out of the factory as opposed to the OR that has 3. It seems that some sr5's have 4 some have 3. I've heard though I can not confirm that the sport has a heavier sway bar.

 

I believe it's only Canadian trucks that have 4 leafs. US trucks get 3. Not sure on the sway bar. In past discussions, it was only the springs (OR has progressive, SR5 and Sport have linear springs).

 

US Sports do get 4 leafs, it does have different coils and it does have a larger diameter sway bar

 

this is going to sound like a joke, but you need to insert a ziptie on the steering shaft. there's a thread on it. works like a charm. dealer is just a waste of time for this one.

Please explain? Where on the steering shaft and What would a zip tie do on the steering shaft.

Mine drives and steers better than most cars. If you want to feel some shitty steering drive a ford. Esp a Mustang.

 

Mine has 4 leafs. Also I just did the zip tie mod. Seems to take some loose feel out of the steering.

The sport and offroad have different coils, don't they? Progressive vs linear.

So just stiffening up the flex coupling. I see now. I must be lucky. I don't have any of the issues listed on the site.
