access cab for double cab

im thinking about trading my 07 4cyl manual preR 11,500mi acc cab for a double cab.it just doesnt have enough room for 2 car seats. is there anything i need to look for when getting a DC. i definately dont want those crappy dunlops again. gas mileage was no where near sticker either i got 22 mpg every tank. any advice appreciated. Car seats will definitely fit easier in the DC. I have 2 car seats and a booster seat in mine. It's a tight squeeze to fasten the seatbelts, but they fit. Having 2 full sized doors helps a lot too!

I would try to get the dealer to upgrade the tires and perform all TSBs before you take delivery (rear spring and tailgate TSBs come to mind).

Other than that it comes down to bed size and tranny. The DC comes in a short bed (5ft) and long bed (6ft). The LB Sport will be closer to the length of your AC bed, but only comes in Sport and auto. If you want the Off Road package (with rear locker instead of LSD) or 6spd manual you'll have to get the short bed. Lots of discussions on the LB vs. SB, but ultimately it's up to you and what you want/need.

Oh, and with my DC SB 4x4 I get around 17-18mpg so your MPG will drop if you get the 4x4. I think the Prerunner DC's might get around 20-22mpg, but I'm not sure on that.

 

I get approx. 17city/22hwy. One of the reasons we bought a DC is because of a possible upcoming child so I would agree that's the route to take. I just hope you don't take too much of a bath on the trade in. To make you feel better, my buddy had an '07 Tacoma DC V6 Off Road 4X4 that he traded in after 4 months for a Tundra and only lost $600 in the deal.

 

PT and the dog are right on, if you're not in a hurry wait for the best deal, whatever you do don't trade your taco for the chevy or the dodge, stay with Toyotas and you'll be fine.

 

did they fix the rear spring, and tailgate tsb? are they the only major ones?

 

You'd have to ask the dealer about what's been done. The spring one is easy to check. Look at the rear leafs. If you see 4 (3 + big overload) then it has it it. If it has 3 (2 + big overload) then it needs it.

Tailgate is an internal redesign so it's not visible unless you remove the plastic cover and look inside at the top edge.

I think there are others, but those are the 2 big ones I can think of. The tailgates without it are relatively easy to bend/buckle. Without the rear leaf TSB or a lift (AAL or new leaf packs) the truck bottoms out easily with small loads (say 300lbs or more).

 

^I got news for you, my house is not quite 4 years old and my SB doesn't fit. Granted, the mop sink is dead center but still. I hate parking my truck outside.

 

Funny, don't contractors drive pick up trucks ? yeah I know they build what the architect or engineer tells them too, but how about a little impute ?

 

A small snobby township here in Dallas just passed an ordinance that new homes with garages must have a certain square footage to be legal in that city. They are tired of the excuse "it will not fit in my garage" for the amount of cars left on the roadways each night out front of everyone's home. My 08 DC SB Tacoma fit in mine but just barely. I can walk around behind it after parking in the garage and I have about a 2 foor slot.

If it was up to just "me" I would have gotten an access cab to get the slightly longer bed. But the wife has relatives that visit often and she wanted 4 doors on whatever we got. So I compromised and got the DC. I get somewhat of a truck bed and she gets 4 doors. I just think of it as a much nicer, bigger, better Sport Trax.

 

Hey, 45, what "small snobby township" are you talking about? You got me curious.

I had to reconfigure my woodworking tools, but I got my truck in the garage, plus my wife's CRV. I had to install one of those laser parking guides to keep her from taking her half out of the middle. Even with that it's impossible to access the passenger side of my truck while it's in the garage, but that works for us.

 

^hmmmm.... My rear doors open wide enough to get car seats in and out... Only hard part is getting the baby's carseat/basket thing over my 6yr old's booster seat to the middle seat. But that's more of an issue of getting it high enough over the booster without hitting the handle on the roof.

 

I only have a booster seat and no probs...

It also fits fine in the garage. I have a SB though. I think the LB would have fit, but it would have been tight.

 

Thanks for the info. Just checked my 08 and it has the 4 rear leafs so it looks like they do this by default now.

My 08 has a little shudder around 20km when braking, a few other people ha ve mentioned the same thing. I will get the dealer to looking into this on my first service.

My DC is great for my 2 1/2 year old. He loves the truck!!! plus we have another on the way. Lots of room for the new addition. No complaints with the width of the doors.

well i went and swapped. got a 08 DC prerunner trd sport. i like it a whole lot more rides alot better too! mine just has 3 leafs by the way. will it ride any better or worse with the 4 leafs tsb? thanks

 

congrats! How did it work out for you? Lose a lot of money?

The TSB will make it stiffer, so ride quality is up to you. It'll keep it from bottoming out with small/medium loads anyway.

 

well i dont carry loads much anyway. i got $17000 for mine and i give $24000 for the DC. i think i done pretty good

 

I would get the TSB done. at first the ride is alot stiffer but it softens up after a few hundred miles. Plus, bottoming out is very uncomfortable. My dad has an Xterra and with all four of us in it it would bottome out on the highway when going over bridges that were'nt completely level with the road. very harsh and uncomfortable. Get the TSB
