dealership sucks

Ok, so I dropped my truck off for its first oil change/tire rotation. I havent had a vehicle in a shop........EVER! So I was a little hesitant but, you know, it's free. Everything went fine, or so i thought. the next week My buddy wants to see what my wheels and tires would look like on his 02 Z71, I said alright cause I already had his fronts rims and tires off doing wheel bearings. I have a powerfull cordless impact that wouldnt budge my lug nuts!!!! So then I hooked up the air with a matco impact, still nothing!!! So then I got my torque wrench out and went up in 10LB incraments until a lug nut moved....well the lug nut finally moved at 240 foot pounds of torque!!!!!!!!! Thats a little excessive seeing as how it only calls for 83. I do know the first gens were bad about breaking studs if over torqued. So I called BOB RICHARDS OF NORTH AUGUSTA SC. and the service manager was a total dumbass. He told me he didnt see how that was possible because he only has 150PSI running through his shop . Was he trying to get me off his back or was he dumb enough to really think you cant get 240 foot pounds outta 150 psi of air???? so he wouldnt do absolutly nothing for me, I tried to at least get him to give me the filters and oil for my next 4 changes and he said he couldnt do that. So ling story short, who do I need to talk to??

 

Shops do that just used an impact and torque the shit out of them but if you wana complain go to his boss and Just complain

 

Good luck dude. I just finished washing my truck and discovered that after the last time I went in for the free oil change and tire rotation the dealer didn't rotate the tires. How do I know? My front drivers side wheel is the only one with a scratch and the scratched wheel is still on the front drivers side! Can't wait to go in next time!

 

Customer service rep. My first rotation they scratched all 4 wheels so you have to check everything they do.

I'd be replacing that stud and nut if it was torqued as high as it seems, thats way too much stress.

 

No, but theres no really accurate way, thats about as good as its gonna get, but if you torque it at 80, then go back at 100, it will move, so I beleive it would be safe to say it was at least 200ft-lb

 

It was all 24 of them

 

woah, I'd ask that the dealership buy you new studs and lug nuts.

I'd try to nicely explain to the service manager that it is a safety hazard and you are not comfortable driving your family around knowing they were extremely over tightened.
hopefully asking nicely goes well, if not you might have to mention that toyota customer care will be involved if they have to be.
