I have to check mine at least once a week. I get paranoid when driving my truck and usually check it more often than once a week. I've had my motor leaking considerable amounts of oil and now its down to about a quarter sized spot at most if it does leak anymore (on and off), and it likes to burn oil occasionally now (enough to see it smoke out the exhaust pipe) so I make sure to check it more often. Then again I have a 3.0L v6 that is 24 years old.

Now my dad's 05 does not have a problem with burning or using oil and he is getting close to 100k miles. My friend's dad's 06 never had a problem with oil burning or using and the last time I saw the truck it had 225k miles, but has well over 250k miles now.

Nope, never had to with newer cars. If I hear or see a problem I will but doubt that will happen. Just bought a 2012 and I have now put 2000 miles on it. I checked it yesterday and no problem, I will check it again at 4000 and than 5000 and have it changed. If it still looks good I won't check it again until I think it's using/burning oil. I think if you do a lot of off roading, pulling or hauling than it might be different but I don't do much of that.

I have put over 98k on my 2006, and I don't check mine. I do however check for leaks underneath, smoke from the exhaust, and after I change the oil every 5k miles, I measure how much oil I have drained from the truck.

I check it after every oil change and I don't worry about it on my 2007. I religiously check for leaks under the truck and over the past 5 years, haven't lost a drop.

On the 96 I owned had 60k when I bought it and I sold it at 110k. I checked the oil probably once between oil changes and it consistently lost 1/2 quart every 5000k miles (no drips on the driveway)

That is crazy, I just switched to military battery terminals today, and I ordered a set of terminal boots for them this afternoon. I thought about leaving the positive terminal uncovered for about a minute, then realized how close it is to the oil filter and what not. It is just too easy to do that.

    I ordered them from here:

Hopefully there won't be any fires!

No reason to check the oil unless you have a leak. Or maybe if you just want to show off that engine at the pump.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)

i have 151,000 miles. i try to do an oil change every 4,000 miles. its not because of the oil most o the time.. I have been told that most filters will not go for more than 4,000 miles. I cant verify this though

but i try and check it around 3-4k miles

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
One time, my grandma had a Camry or maybe it was a Corolla a few years ago that went 10 years without the hood being lifted or oil changed. When they opened the hood at the dealership the engine compartment was caked in dust and it was 2 quarts low on oil, surprised it could run that long on the same oil.

You should check every fill up with gas. ESP with 151K on the clock. IMO

Haven't checked it in about 3k miles :anonymous:

It consistently uses about 1/4 quart over my 5k mile OCI's and that's with 180k miles so I feel pretty confident about the oil level.

Magnaflow Exhaust, K&N intake, Husky box carpeted w/LED lights - secured by pros, mounts for AR15.
I thought about this more and realized I check my oil when I do an inspection of my K&N CAI (resonance at idle) and basics e.g. brake fluid (visible on mine) coolant, accessory drive belt, and since I am in the rocks a lot, my skidplate and oil pan to be sure all is well.

2011 - I burn NO oil. the dealer is 45 bucks for 0-20w change and filter but
last time they overfilled by half a qt (super hard to see it is so clear) - I had Chevron drain it off since I am seeking a job at that dealer and was outa town haha

While half a qt would not harm anything (probably) it did take 3 mpg away and is hard on the seals. There is no reason to not check your oil.
