I guess it jumped from a couple hundred acres to over 5,000 in a flash. As an comparison the previous fire last week took over a week to get to the same numbers. This on is pretty scary right now as they haven't even been able to stage properly to plan an attack. Every time they get to a location to stage the fire is already upon them. Some very scary situations happening today with our own Sheriff and other deputies attempting to evacuate residents safely and my hats off to those who keep our communities safe. There really are some great men out there saving lives. Here's to hoping everyone stays safe and they get things under control sooner than later.

98cui S&S motor. Built it with my dad for my dad like 4 years ago. I'm about the only one who rides it anymore. It's only good for straight lines corners are rough on it. My brother almost wrecked it last year trying to corner it like a street bike and about high sided it after he hit the peg on the ground.

Got the stitches out of my forehead finally! Only took 9 days...

Not sure how much you guys know about fire ecology and what-not, but wildfires aren't all bad. In fact, most ecosystems depend on them. It sounds bad when you hear about how much land is burned, especially when its in a populated area, but wildfires are a natural process that help kill off invasive species and promote new growth. I'm sure you guys have heard that pinecones don't release their seeds until they're burned. Many other native plant species are the same way. A couple years after these areas that just burned begin to re-grow, they will actually be much more productive and diverse ecosystems than the old growth forests. A new field of ecology and land management is focusing on exactly this; figuring out what the natural cycle of fires is in the area so that we can better replicate them to enhance the health of the forests.

Sorry for the rambling. But this what I learn about as an environmental science major...

EDIT: You can determine the natural cycle of fires by taking tree ring samples and looking at the scars left by fires. When they happen in natural cycles they don't burn very hot and trees can survive them. But when we put strict fire regulations and prevent natural fires from occurring it allows dead organic matter to accumulate in the forest; thus adding a lot more fuel. Then when a fire breaks out, it burns much hotter and destroys everything in its path. This is why controlled burns have started to happen more frequently (they're just simulating natural fires).

Okay I think I'm done. There's your science fact of the day.

True, its just kinda scary that its headed for a majorly populated area. My sister is in north Fort Collins and the evac line is 8 miles west of her. My friend Nikki is in the evac zone and shes rushing to get her horses outta there.

These guys fighting this thing need everything they can get, as do the families and people evac'd, and the families of those not so fortunate. Please keep them in your prayers.
