Pretty sure you'd have to replace the entire "underpinnings".

The 12 radios and 11 and older do not properly fit the plastic surrounds.

Major ordeal with the AC vents and airbag controls being different.

    Wait...

That listing indicates it's for the older model.
Where are you getting that it's a '12?

Lol I forgot a few key words in my post. I'll rephrase it. Can I get environment controls like the 12 to match that radio for the 05/06?

    Ahh....

    Okay.

    That's not "like the 12"
That's the black face, which was used in the RC, I assume to reduce glare from the rear window, and possibly all base models.

Yes. The enviro controls from any '05-'11 will plug right into your '06

Put up a WTT in the Marketplace. A lot of RC owners (myself included) would like to replace the black controls with silver to match aftermarket head units.
If you were local I'd drive over today and do the swap.

Dude.. just paint the MFer... it's $4 for a can of spray paint and saves you a lot of trouble.

Ya, silver to black is easy.

Black to silver.... I've just never had good luck with silver rattle cans.
Without a clearcoat they always end up transferring aluminum to anything that touches it, and ends up with stains and dark streaks.

Well he's wanting to go from silver to black. So he should have no problem. Buy some satin or flat black paint, and matte clearcoat and have at it. I sprayed mine with 3 coats, and 2 of clear. it's holding up perfectly fine on my AC controls & dash kit

Ya... I want to go the other way.
I had a blackface and replaced the stereo with a Rosen nav unit.
It's silver and I'd like to get the silver AC controls.

I just hate to see perfectly good parts rattle-canned when there are people out there who would gladly trade for them.

I'll post it here too, if anyone is willing to trade and willing to overnight the part I will do the same. I don't want to spray bomb the parts inside my truck. Its my baby and keeping it look perfect Is my goal.

No need to spray-bomb inside the truck.

Carefully, using your fingertips/nails, pop out the covers under the AC vents.

Reach in, down, toward center, and you'll feel the tits that secure the top of the AC panel. Push those.

That will pop the panel out enough to get in there and remove it, disconnect the wiring harness, and it's out. Literally a 30 second job to remove.

Alternatively, you can use a plastic picnic knife to go in under the bottom edge and pop it out that way.

Oh I'm aware that I can take it out. Ive already done a few mods that required the dash to come out. I just mean I dont want to be spray painting anything that is inside my truck. I was a nice clean look. So a stock black unit is what I'm looking for.

Okay... I thought you were referring to painting it in-place.

I really wish you were in SoCal, we'd have swapped hours ago.

Ya, I can't have mine down for even 12 hours.
Traffic signal tech and pretty much on call 24/7. I can be down long enough for an oil change and that's about it.

    plasti dipped wheel caps,

Confused. are you wanting to swap out the radio and HVAC controls from the new "12 models into your "06 model? as far as the "HVAC" controls swap, i don't see why not, but the radio i don't know. the mounting may be the same, but the wiring may be a little different. good luck

koll! i've got a friend Lance, BUT he DOESNT have a TACOMA :(

You might wanna just paint it. The black ones are hard to come by. Black radios, black clock/hazards & black ac panels are scarce. Have to luck out on a part out or somethin. I lucked out, I have full black and full silver ac vent piece, stereos, clock/hazards & AC panel setups so I can switch out or mix/match without painting anything back and forth. Putting silver buttons on the black stereo and black buttons on the silver stereo or leave them silver on silver/black on black is also option.
