I'll but made purchase on this truck. What's it worth?

    2004 SR5
    Extended Cab
    4x4
    5spd Manual
    2.7 ltr 4cyl
    194k

and body damage on door, cab, bed as seen below:

Also: what problems do these trucks have at this level of mileage? Anthing I should do upon purchase for effective preventive maintenance? Would you be comfortable with an 8yr old tacoma with this mileage?

I would fix it. I fixed more body damage on my truck around 260,000. I have almost 300,000 now and it still runs great. The truck has never had a hiccup since brand new.

i'd say other than the damage, the truck looks really clean, i would think about 4-5K is reasonable for it

I just purchased a 03 with 192k, although a V6. If the service has been kept up I wouldn't be afraid as long as the price reflects mileage. I would discount at least 2k for the body damage. You could probably get a good deal to buy it, drive it and not repair it or be able to repair it yourself. What's the seller asking? Good luck.

Seller's offer currently stands at 3.5

Not worried as much about the damage as I am the mileage. I had a 1991 3.0 4rumner with 234k on it that still ran OK, but I know nothing about these '04's, 2.7 4cyl and these trans. Plus, I want to make sure I discount the purchase price appropriately to account for damage.

I'm kind of confused because it was my impression these Toyotas were notorious for out lasting incredibly high miles. Other than basic maintenance issues, what major problems should I look for or be expecting? Are they notorious for blown head gaskets? Trans failing? Blowing out diffs? 4x4 failing? Ecu problems? Etc.

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
They can last 500k+ miles if cared for. The 4x4 would probably be the last thing to fail since it usually isn't used much except for mall parking lots. I think the 4cyl. 1st gen. ones have cylinder head troubles based on what I've seen from shopping around and owner's reports. This could be from using the wrong coolant or neglect of the cooling system.

I have heard about the automatic transmissions failing from a few owners.

Tacos are like anything else, they can have major problems like anything else. They are designed for long service life.

    Haha... true.

So what would you pay for this truck?

I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2.4 and 2.7, but my old 95.5 tacoma 4 cyl had over 350K when I sold it with nothing done other than routine maintenance.

Just for reference my 04 (V6) currently has 193K and it runs perfectly.

$3500 seems like a really good deal (assuming all the damage is cosmetic).

I would pay 3500 if it was in good clean condition and everything seemed to work. If you don't feel comfortable evaluating the truck find a local independent shop to do a PPI for you.

No more than 2500 IMO...due to the mileage and the body damage. All that crumpling on the rear of the cab will take A LOT of work to fix...

I would start by offering him 2K cash.
