No much love over in the lighting forum but I know it's a popular mod. I am not sure which route to go to obtain daytime running lights.

I followed 007's write-up and bought the relay and jumper for $50. I also read a write-up by PiercedTiger to do it for free.

Each method has it's pro's and con's and most people will defend their method as the best. But please post how you did it and what you like/dislike about it.

    • When do they come on?
    • When do they turn off?
    • Are they bright (use both filaments)?
    • Are they on with/without your headlights?
    • Does it turn your taillights on as well?

Also...did you install a switch to turn them off?

i bought the spade connectors from the dealership and tapped into the parking lights. they come on when i turn on the parking lights and turn off them i turn off the truck or turn them off. not bad for a $10 or so mod. i like them, but when i did my bhlm i took out the yellow reflector and painted the whole inner peice....so they aran't as bright as i'd like them to be. but still noticeable.
few diff ways to do the mod

I didn't mean "HOW did you do it". I meant "how did YOU do it". There are two very different ways of doing it listed in that mod thread. There are several other ways posted on ToyotaNation.

I would like to know how you did it and how you like it.

Don't the outer amber (parking) lights come on when you turn on the parking lights? What is the difference in how you did it?

Why not just leave the parking lights on all the time? They turn off when you open the door, right?

    Pictures?

ok. the way i did it was run a pigtail wire from the parking light wire into the third, empty, connection on the turn signal/new to be DTDL connection and fill in the connector with silicone to keep the water out. I like this method because I works with the light switch and comes on with the parking lights. and I already had that little amount of wire lying around to do the mod. only took about 15-20 minutes to do.

I did the 'free' DIY DTRLs. I also have the alternating turn signals going on (parking light/turn signal light).

Being able to turn the running lights off was a key factor in why I chose the DIY DRTL mod vs the factor running lights. Although, I have noticed the factor DTRLs seem to be much brighter.

That is what I thought and is the reason I am leaning toward the relay with a switch. I want them to be as bright as possible. Dim lights look....dull

I went with the flasher and relay from TRDparts4u.com also. Its a nicer install and seems safer rather then tapping into other wires.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
I did it with factory parts (relay, etc.)

When do they come on? Whenever the truck is on without the headlights.
When do they turn off? Headlights on or truck is off
Are they bright (use both filaments)? Yes -- very bright.
Are they on with/without your headlights? They are on when the headlights are off.
Does it turn your taillights on as well? No

I contemplated a switch, but decided against it... I didn't see a reason to turn them off.

:) I really like the way the truck looks with the DRLs on... :D

Hell of an offer...thanks! I already bought the oem relay and jumper. Before installing, I wanted to make sure I was doing it the way that seemed best to me.

I'm sure it's not hard to do but I always like to have additional eyes when messing with something like my truck. I already lined up a friend to help but thanks again for the offer
