Trail debris can grab and yank off whatever it can get ahold of. For the record, My D0dge Dakota had an electric transfer case, and it never left me with out 4 wheel drive. Many Tacoma owners have never had an issue with their electric Transfer cases. BUT, If given the option, I choose a manual one.

yea but then no warrranty and no 4.0L and all that comes with a 06-08 taco, with rear diff locks and 4x4 one has got to get u out, and if elocker goes out then it stays locked so u get out either way. then repairs of course. i just have looked for about 3 years and everything(4x4) under 05 is in such horrible condition, oh they look good on the outside but thats it by far..

You can still have the 4.0. The warranty, thats a big grey area. Personally for me, It can be better to fix an issue myself, rather than waste my time at a dealer ship.

3.4 is the v6 under 05, and i havent ran into an 05 or under yet that was still under warranty and i have looked and looked and looked, its all good to me if they do it for free.rather then me spending all types of money for parts, then finding and having to pay someone to install. my health is not good for all that jazz.

I have been hunting around for parts for a prerunner conversion. A few questions I'm trying to find answers to:

Is the A340F a straight swap for the A340E? I know I'll need to cut the floor for the shifter but I was mainly concerned about cooling lines, linkage, wiring etc.
Can the RZ bellhousing on the A340E be used to replace the VZ housing on a A340F?
Does the A340F use the same crossmember to support it as the A340E but just a different mount?
Are A340F drive shafts different sizes depending on access cab and regular cab? ie are they interchangeable?
Can a ADD front diff be used for the conversion?
Can ADD be disconnected to be made manual?

Your best bet is to not use an ADD front end. There are plenty of 2000 year front ends with manual hubs. Not sure on the tranny questions, though.

Thanks for that Chris. Any suggestions on finding one? Not having much luck so far. Found a transmission and transfer in Phoenix which I thought was going to be the hard part.

Also, check on TTORA.com and ask some people that have done SAC's...they may have their old front end parts.

I put an ad up over at TTORA. Until parts start showing up I'll just install my ARB rear locker and new 4.88 gears:)

Found a wrecked 2000 4cyl 4x4 with 44000 miles. Able to get front diff non ADD with 430 gears (same as mine), ATransmission and Manual transfer case, front spindles with manual hubs and drive shafts for $2700..gulp. Actually price isn't so bad I guess for low mileage parts and exactly what I want...all manual. The price includes delivery to the door and one-year warranty on parts.

Does this seem reasonable? Would be good to get the complete package in one. Could probably find parts cheaper but it take a lot of time and searching. Comments??

Thanks Chris. Like I said, I could spend the next year looking and buying a little at a time. Could prob save a grand if I'm lucky but time is money! Thanks again!
