I noticed today that I had hot air flowing through the 2 vents next to the window. I checked to make sure the fan was switched off and even turned the temp to cold. Did not touch the fan speed had at "off" still had air coming out but just warm. Anyone had the same problem

Are you sure you had the vent set to circulate the air in the cabin? If you have it set to the open position...air will flow into the cabin from the exterior and continue to flow through your vents even if the fans are off.

    I hope that wasn't confusing...

I had the air set to flow from outside and no fan on, so that being said it is only 7 degrees celsius here in Halifax . So where the hot air is coming from is any ones guess

The guys answered it pretty good. I have noticed that wherever your dial is set to for the degree of temp.... it will send it out through the vents. If you want the air to go cold turn it to cold....well you get the idea.

edit gouge44 beat me to it. Your fast... your real fast.

Yep, it blends in outside air on the far outer vents. Unless the a/c is on or recirc is on. The temp dial will change it. Set the airflow to floor only and you can still feel some come thorugh the outer vents as well.

Here is a thought. If you have the switch off there should be no air flow. This is how it has worked in any other truck I have had. So according to your theory there should always be a certain amount of flow. How about just not having a off/on and just have the temp setting. Feel free to try it. Any other thoughts!

The dealership reckons that there is an issue and the will be looking at it on Monday. They looked at it today but cannot get in until Monday. Thanks for the info though and have already done it

I am having the same issue with hot air flow...mine is mainly in the floor vents though. I do have air flow with the upper vents, but it's not as warm.

I did try to circulate only the in cabin air- helps the upper vents, but doesn't seem to do a lot for the floor vents.

One thing to try is setting the temp to cold, then turning the vent position to windshield and feet. Then make sure there is no recirculating going on. This should produce the coolest air coming into the cab without the AC on. I've done this in many enviroments where the outside air is cool not hot and it works very well. Just a thought...

the A/C is automatically kicked on, there is no way to disable that. The only way to defrost a window is with dry air, hence why they automatically kick on the A/C. You can use it for cold or hot air, the A/C simply dries the air out, doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be cold.

Yea, as posted before... air will flow from the intake port for the system unless the recirculation button is engaged. It doesn't matter if the fan is on or off, if you're moving the force of the wind will blow through, and it's heated from the engine bay. If the A/C compressor is on (only on when the fan is engaged in low or higher), it'll cool that heated air, otherwise it's just "room temp." That just happens to be engine bay temp. It kinda sucks but, just think of the recirc button as on/off and it's not that big of a deal. I'm used to climate control myself but, that's part of the beauty of these trucks, simple components.

You have to move the knob that controls where your air comes from (it cannot be on the two right most sections I always move it straight up), then press the circulate air in the cabin button. Why you don't have the cabin only air option with all the selections, I don't know, it annoys me too.. but like I said, just move it then hit the button, a little light will come on.

That may be true in some cases but my Tacoma and Tundra does not switch to A/C when turned to on the vent knob. Only if I press the A/C button and the light comes on and the compressor kicks in is my A/C running. The temp will vary with the temperature knob but the A/C will only turn on if you ask it to.

Hate to say you are wrong, but....you are wrong....

the A/C compressor kicks on automatically, even if the A/C button is not lit up or depressed.

You can't disable the A/C while in defrost. The A/C light may be off, but when in defrost or defrost/floor, the compressor will attempt to run. The majority of cars do this unknowingly to the driver. Why? Because heat alone will not remove moisture from your windshield. Air conditioning is much more than cooling the air, it is the removal of moisture from the air. You really do need the A/C to run to keep the windshield clear on rainy days, but it is counter intuitive to the typical driver so vehicle HVAC controls manufacturers do it for you.

    BUT, here's the rub...

The air conditioning system has its own safeguards most notably of which is a low pressure switch. This protects the system from damaging itself if it is low on charge AND when the outside temperature is below about 40 degrees so that the compressor does not get slugged with liquid refrigerant. The lower the ambient temperature, the lower the refrigerant pressure.

The bottom line is that there is nothing that needs to be done. Run the defroster all you want, your system has safeguards to protect it. (From FJBinky)

    RTFM!

About the recirc button. A favorite pet peeve of mine. Ever see a vehicle driving down the highway in the middle of winter with its windows all fogged up and the driver peering out of a peephole in the windshield? This is a fool who has either the lever or the button for recirc turned on. With no air conditioning to remove the moisture from the cabin air and little outside air coming in to exchange with the moisture laden cabin air, the excess moisture condenses on the coldest parts of the vehicle. The insides of the windows.

This is also the same reason why you can't turn recirc on while in defrost mode.

We Engineers and Designers have kept it simple by designing the controls to operate correctly.
