There are a few threads about sunroofs, but I want to share my info and ask a question here.

I have the factory (not aftermarket) tilting sunroof/moonroof on my 01. I thought it was included with the Limited package, but it sounds like it was a dealer-installed option. Anyway, 11 years and 160,000 miles later, it does NOT leak - still works perfectly.

Here are pictures of it (for posterity)

My question is, did these come with a retractable sun shade, and if so, where can I find one? Or maybe I could rig up a non-factory shade to work? There are 2 clips on the front inside (3rd pic above) that look like they might hold one.

Yes, they came with a removable shade. My 02 has one, not on the truck now, or I would post a pic. Not sure where you could get a replacement. May be easier to fab one out of masonite and cover it with headliner material.

Good to know, thanks. If I can see pics of someone's shade, I'm sure I can fab one - anyone with a shade & a camera out there?

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
I have the very same sunroof, and I never had the original cover. I had to make one out of reflectix and some cardboard just so it doesn't cook me in the sun. My guess is that the stealership would want a couple of hundred bucks for it. Maybe a special toyota junkyard would have one.

The original one is removeable, and it covers the whole sunroof.

I thought about making one with masonite, it would be ok. The original one is contoured, and that would be hard to make. I guess you could always tint the glass instead.

I have the same moonroof, I have it limo tinted and no longer use the grey color matched shade cover.

Sits in my closet, actually going to get it limo tinted again as I dont care to see out of it.

    Stock for now
I had a factory moonroof in my 95 Toyota pickup.
Did not use the shade but....
when I sold the truck & moved I found the factory shade in a closet.
Basically it was a hard board covered in vinyl with a little lock wheel.
Threw it on ebay, figured I would get like 20 bucks
    Sold for $125

I have no idea what its worth but would be willing to sell it for sure, I will clean it up today.

I will do some research and figure out the cost of a replacement and undercut the piss out of it for ya. :)

Man I wish I had a moonroof in my Tacoma.

My Legacy wagon has a humungous one and I loved it.

Wow, very cool! For some reason I was expecting a retractable fabric thing. That definitely looks like it will clip into my existing setup just fine. Let me know what you come up with.

I just received one I found on Craigslist ($50 shipped). It's more lightweight than I thought - just molded plastic with fabric glued on both sides.

I'll be happy to post pics or provide more details if anyone ever has questions about these like I did.

Update: this shade is super nice to have in the hot summer months.
Also, every Tacoma guy I run into is jealous of my sunroof. I didn't know it was such a rare option!
