Anyone else tired of seeing these "fab" shops producing products they ripped the ideas off of other fabricators for, then build sub par just to undercut the original fabricator? Seems to be all the rage these days on tardworld and this shit is bad for Toyota enthusiasts as well as the original fab shops who provide us good products.

You people NEED TO STOP DRINKING THE COOL AID.

I just got done reading the shackle flip thread and once again another guy just releasing product without proper R&D to the public  This shit is getting old. First it was diff diapers, then LCA skids, now shackle flips. All the people who just "click and buy" will be in line to get the "next cool mod" without ever doing any research on the product, it's use, or the people making it.

I really hope people start to give their money to the people who actually came up with the products and did proper R&D instead of "getting a deal" by buying stuff made by people knocking off others designs and never doing any R&D. Anyone can copy someone elses work. Support the innovators not the turds. Just imagine if you lost your job to someone copying you then undercutting your services with sub par cheaper labor.....

I know some in here might be offended because you bought these products, and if you are, well I don't apologize - it's my opinion.

Damn, that traffic this morning really pissed you off huh? :D

I get where you are coming from with the shackle flips, being a major mechanical component of the vehicle I wouldn't buy something like that without some solid testing.

As far as diff and lca skids though I just don't get it. If they somehow fail you are no worse off than if you didn't have them (go ahead, insert magic bullet damage multiplier paranoid theory here  ). I personally don't see a need for LCA skids, but after wheeling and seeing the damage to my diff drain plug I wanted protection there, I was willing to lose 1/2" of ground clearance for that protection. I preferred the design Jerry came up with which had pinion protection and didn't leave a hole where the diff drain is, aka not a copy of the existing boztec design.

    yes

I did group a couple things together in my rant that maybe I should have separated. The main point of my rant is the copy cats who don't do R&D then sling crap all over only hurt the 4x4 community.

No magic bullet. The original intent of the LCA skid was to get welded to the LCA in order to strengthen it. The secondary intent was so objects like pointy rocks don't hold you up because it blocks the large hole. I just don't see why someone would make a dam near copy of it and market it to protect the LCA cam bolts when doing so kills the original intent of them. We also know a 2" wide piece of 1/4" thick steel ain't shit when a 5k truck is pushing it into a rock. Over 70 people jumped on that GB so maybe I'm just crazy, but it makes NO sense to me

You won't agree that it is a copy? Maybe not an "exact" copy, but a copy all the same. If he improved on it then by all means that's good, but I'm sure sense Boztech is a fabrication company they could of done the same for you in a one off custom.

I'm not here to offend anyone and I'm sure some will get butt hurt. I just want people to think before they spend. It would also be cool if fabricators R&D'd their shit before spewing it on the market. If the market keeps drinking the cool aid I guess why would a fab guy take time, money, and energy to do so when TW buys products up regardless.

Other fabricators take months developing and testing - I just don't see that happening anymore and it's a shame.

Remember how pissed you were when someone making grills was stepping on your turf and doing immoral things and was trying to impact your business.

You know this sort of thing has pissed me off in the past. I just needed to vent.

I get the reasons for the skid, still don't see a need for it in general. Probably change my mind if/when I get hung up on a rock in the middle of my LCA. I think that had success because it bolts on and the 2nd gen cam bolts are vulnerable. Personally if I had a 2nd gen I would get those beefy cam bolt tab replacements and be set.

True, didn't think of pursuing that. Like I said I saw his design as an improvement, or more fitting of what I wanted. I also went into buying it accepting that I was a tester of the product (just like you are for shackle flips ;) ). But I agree a lot of people out there aren't doing that, they just drink it up thinking it's the next cool off-road shit.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
How would any skid not be a "copy" ? The only way to improve that kind device is material choice.

True that. There have been all kinds of skids for other vehicles before they were produced for the Tacoma .... Diff skids, ifs skids, bumpers, etc Different companies design them different ways and improve on each other. I'm glad there is more than one manufacturer or else we would be paying a boat load for parts that might not be good at all.

I do agree about the R&D though. I wouldn't throw myself out there spending all kinds of money for a mechanical feature that could potentially fail.

For example: Bud built, skid row, and ATO = apples, oranges, and pears :D

None of them are even close to similar. They all perform the same basic task, but each takes a different approach to doing so.

To clarify. What I am trying to say is most of these items are ideas from other vehicles passed down with variation. Nothing real innovative in most cases. Just a different spin.

Since this is all obviously directed at me, who exactly did I copy? I have not seen any other ideas (I say ideas since there are no others actually on the market) remotely close to my design. Not in the actual design of it, nor with the multiple mounting options. This has been in the works for well over a year on my end, and in my head much longer than that. Shackle flips are nothing new and there's more to R&D than just having a set bolted to a truck.

So your making LCA skids and diff diapers now?....It wasn't directed at you. It was directed at the people who buy stuff without proper research and that's why it was in our local thread. I addressed my specific issues to you in your fab thread.

I apologize for grouping your shackle flips in with the copy cat rant. I should of kept it in the "needs more real life testing before marketing portion". You know your version is not inline with the springs and that they will wear the bushings faster then if they were inline. Now you said it was a slight difference, but we all know a degree here or there can make a difference - just ask the companies marketing diff drops.

IMO your version looks like the best design I have seen offered for these trucks to date - that said you offered them for sale in here after a day of trail testing and I do not agree with that. Hell you were putting names on lists before you even had a product. I will agree that R&D is longer then anyone knows, but the research needs to extend into the actual product testing phase and not stop once a product has been made. All the planning in the world can not replicate real life.
