    Yeah, unless it was a really good deal I'd pass on anything with the 3.0, fairly under powered for a 6cyl., crappy mileage too IIRC..

    Started a build on a 94 horunner, change my mind soon after. The 3.0 is not a bad motor for reliability but is a dog and a thirsty dog at that. I typically got about 9-11 mpg on 32"s

    Yeah there were 2 versions of the 3.0 IIRC , the early one (pre'90 I think) was the "over heater" due to design flaw with the rearward water jackets/ports on the heads, & the newer version had the heat thing fixed but was still a gutless gas guzzler...

    Makes some sense, I had a '90 4x4 pickup about 18 years ago and I don't remember it being nearly as gutless as the 94 runner

    Only 1 version, they all sucked ass, terrible port design, didnt flow worth a shit, got horrible mileage and blew head gaskets, the problem was a combination of the crossover exhaust causing hot spots on number 1 and 6 and thats where they failed, if they had headers the gasket wouldnt blow.
    I worked at Toyota during the 3.0 recall and as a matter of fact I was Team Leader of a 5 man team responsible for diagnosing and fixing 1000s of 3.0L motors.

    Yes ^^^^^^ but reliability sucks too, especially if its still using stock headers lol.

    Hey Jason what are your thoughts about doing a trans flush vs. fluid exchange? I need to replace my extension housing seal (output shaft seal) and figured I would flush the trans at the same time. Read a bunch about fluid temps and using toyota fluild but everyone has an opinion........

    Thats a tough one, the new fluid that manufacturers use is supposed to be a "lifetime" oil, I dont buy it...the fluid might last a long time, but what about the flashing coming off the clutches and all the other stuff that wears adding grit to the fluid, I guess they say thats fine.

    The new Toyotas like yours have a fluid temp sensor that once triggered requires a fluid flush since the fluid degrades rapidly at a certain temp or higher, so that warrants an immediate change.

    If it were me I would change whats in the pan and top it off (every oil change after 30K) until I got to 90K at which point I would suggest a flush, it can be done yourself but its a real PITA, I have seen a couple of walkthroughs on this, and it will take some time and patience, and you also want to use the original Toyota trans fluid and its kinda pricey, but so is a new transmission..

    My .02...

    Yes those damn things almost run underwater!!! Amazing motors, and when fully built are capable of 250 horse in NA form...on race gas of course.
