Power loss

Re- my 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport: Since I had my accelerator replaced and software upgraded on safety recall, I have been experiencing intermittent power loss. I am told that the software upgrade cuts back on fuel pressure when both brake and accelerator are pressed simultaneously. But this power loss occurs randomly when only the accelerator is depressed, and the best way to bring it out of this condition is to pump or floor the accelerator. Very aggravating under certain road conditions. Toyota has no answers, my dealer kept the truck over a week with no fix. I have not found anyone with same complaint.

 

Why did you have to have that replaced? This wasn't for the stuck accelerators or whatever from years ago was it?

 

Hmmm. I haven't done any of the notices they have sent me. I usually just throw them away. I am interested in the spiral cord one or whatever that they sent me a letter for however. Think I'll have to tell them to not touch the pedal when I take it in?

 

Alright cool. I'll make a mental note for that because I haven't had any accelerations issues with my truck and do not intend to have them "fix" it so that I do :\

 

Yes, it was part of that sticky accelerator mess. Dealer recommended fix, said new software upgrade was important. I had no trouble with floor mats, as I use the HD rubber mats. I am convinced the software upgrade is the culprit here, but my issue is apparently unique only to my truck. Otherwise, I Love the truck!

 

the ecu flash made it so that if the accelerator pedal is being depressed, and then the brake is pressed simultaneously without releasing the accelerator, then the computer overrides the gas since it is an electronic control and not fly-by-wire design. I You are not the first person I have seen complain of this problem on here. I myself had the recall done and have had no problems. Anyways, I have never read about a dealer being able to correct the problem or even duplicate it for that matter, but what it sounds like it 1 of 3 things. Either:
A) your ecu flash caused a problem that is making this new software kick in randomly and decrease power or because it thinks the breaks are being applied.
B) you are driving with 2 feet or your foot is hitting the break without you knowing it and the override is kicking in
or C) your traction control is messed up and decreasing engine power

Thats all I can think of though. GL

 

I am positive it is not item B, so it may be A or C. Thanks for the ideas! William S

 

Have you ever had your fuel injector cleaned? I just had the dealer do my truck for the 2d time 35K and 75K after each time my truck runs smoother and like new power.

I also have the new accelerator and software upgraded. The new software did change my truck. I'm happy that some of the engine braking has been smoothed out. "I was getting whiplash in LA stop and go traffic" now my truck will cost a bit longer before it kicks in.

My dealer cut way to much off my accelerator so I got the hole new one.

 

Found this out after they cut up my gas pedal. I went in mainly for the free mats that came with the recall since I had a cracked drivers mat leaking fluid thru to the carpet. Later I had them install the revised pedal (non hacked version) just because, and Toyota ended up giving me a $100 credit for Toyota parts for my troubles

 

2012 TRD Sprt. From dead stop allows speed up to 20 mph and then acts like I turned the key off; last for almost one second. Intermittent and I no "eng ck lite". This power loss is scary tying to enter on-ramp, but I'll have to live w/it. I did get a maint. number and the factory rep said Toyota will fix problem as long as I own the truck; they just have to duplicate it.

 

2012 TRD sport also. Mine is a manual Access cab. Had it happen one time to me also. It was a couple days after doing a stereo install where I had the battery disconnected. Was accelerating up a steep grade and the power just stopped. At first I thought the engine died. I saw no dash lights come on. The stereo was still playing. After checking my feet and shifter position I pumped the throttle a couple times and it came back to life. I had no throttle for at least 5 - 8 seconds. Never experienced anything like that before or since.

 

The brake switch takes a 1/4 turn to unclip, slide up or down to desired position, then 1/4 turn to lock again.

Before trying to adjust it, see if you can get the brake lights to come on by wiggling the pedal or depressing it less than 1/4 inch. If they light up under those conditions, you've found your culprit. Its starting to be a common complaint, and the brake pedal switch adjustment has been at fault in at least a few cases on this forum.
