Camburg balljoint INSTALLED PICS

SoCal suspension, 9AM.
ball joints pressed in.

They just cut the bolt and got a new set from the local dealer; said it would cut off a bunch of time and since the bolts were only ten bucks I said ya go for it. I have a feeling you can get these bolts out w/o cutting since camburg doesn't send replacements bolts, but whatever this worked too.

After Camburg UCA. eh, still didn't totally correct the positive camber... eric at so cal says I need a 1/4 spacer to get more lift since these arms were designed for more lift. Increasing the length of the shock will allow additional negative camber. Right now the cam bolts are totally cranked....

I also replaced the rear shocks w/ 5100's but forgot to take pics.

Install:$150 + he just threw on the rear shocks for free
Bilstein Rear shocks: $75.00 per shock (on sale right now) +free alignment (nothing is really free...)

The tech accidently left the receipt in the box; SoCal actually bought them for $330 and change. Of course I found out all of this after the fact and tried getting some $$ back but it was pretty much usless since I already paid. Go figure it's a business so they get discounts and make money off the parts... OH well

Whatever, it rides pretty nice, the arms are way 1000x better than stock and I'm excited to see how it will perform offroad. Debating on weather I should go w/ the spacers and attempt to get the alignment dead on before I buy the wheel and tire combo. What do you guys think?

Now im very curious to why the cut the bolt? As for correcting the allignment how bad does it wander? new uca's look good.

 

Believe me if i can get the bolt out it is possible, i will ask him that tomorrow why was it nessasary.

 

apparently thats what they did w/ the last taco when installing these arms. I dunno, I wasn't too impressed w/ the service today, they got grease on my arm rests and chair + cut my bolt which wasn't necessary, forcing me to buy new bolts. On top of that my alignment isn't totally corrected. Eric did tell me the other day that he only makes money off the labor not the parts... Bull *cough* of course he will not surrender any money back. As far as my balljoints being the weakest link, well, I'll just cross my fingers cause I do take my truck off road. I'm willing to bet it will hold up pretty good.

It drives straight, no wander nothin, it's just the dam camber is still a little bit positive.

 

Really ben sorry to refer you to him for that kind of service, i hope tomorrow i dont get service like that or there will be problems, anything you want me to say tomorrow. im gonna bring up the bolt cutting issue.

 

And he should have told you the issue with the bolt so you were not left out of the loop about purchasing new ones.

 

nah it's all good steve, totally not your fault. I'm sure many people have had great success with Eric infact he's actually a really cool guy to deal with; the other issue I had was that my appointment was at 8am, however the camburg arms didn't even show up till 10am by UPS! So, I waited in that parking lot next to the out of business 'anything corvette' lol for 2 hours. He told me that he would call me when the parts arrived. What he should have done is call me to let me know the parts wouldn't be in by 8am!

you don't need to go into detail but feel free to let eric know my concerns, especially the grease, I mean, dude it was all over my door handle and a pretty good spot on my chair. My truck is new for gods sake!

 

Hey ben just want to give you an update of how my appointment went, well i get there and they are working on a tacoma putting 5100's all around with an aal. But he takes a look at my truck and we go test drive and he heres the clunk sound so i decide hey how about we lower the coilovers a half inch and see what happens the clunk went away according to eric so then he tells me because we lower the coilovers it veers to the left so he said you can go to your guy and get an allignment or we can do it here so i said what the hell lets do it here, i gave the allignment guy a run for his money i must have seen him leave atleast 6 times but i told him as long as it goes straight so he finally gets it to go straight lol, so after i drive it home i did feel a slight clunk but its not as bad as it was and the allignment is good for me. However i did question him about the UCA bolt to why he cut it, it was mainly to save time but i told him it is possible to take the bolt without cutting just a little moving here and there a it will come out if i can do you can do it kind of thing. But in my opinion he should have told you what he was going to do from the get go. I really had a good expierence with eric and socalsuspensiongagrage i didnt get grease in my truck thankgod cause i would have been pissed but good group of guys they got there. At one point he had 3 tacomas at the shop getting something done cool to see.

 

Glad you had a good experience with him. Like I said, it's a hit and miss when it comes to grease on doors etc. But yea they drove my truck literally about 15 times till the cam bolts were maxed out.

 

Yeah, we talked about that and i wouldnt have that issue since my shocks can be adjusted to the hieght needed.

 

I am just curious as to why you chose the regular ball joint over the uni-ball? I am planning on getting NEW uca's and still am up in the air over the uni-ball.

 

The UCAs are not really designed to fix Camber. They Do however have more Positive Caster engineered into them.

 

It's all good. i'm going in tomorrow to get the spacers stacked on the shock. As far as the uniballs go, if I ever completely destroy my balljoints I can always buy uniballs. I know.. 130 a pop so it'll cost about 300 dollars for two added on to the arms I have equals the same price as the uni ball versions. But for right now these arms are fine and minus the uni ball they are just as strong.

 

They will droop just a hair further but not much at all or else you'd be banging into the spring. As it is at full droop my UCA's come damn close to the spring.

Most people don't send bolts with their UCA's. I ran into this with Toytec also. Dealer only had one and had to order the other.
