Damn, I didn't realize US dealers COULDN'T sell to Canadian buyers, just figured most Canadians wouldn't buy in the States because they'd get hosed with taxes and BS at the boarder.

Is some of the disparity due to Canadian vehicles coming with additional equipment like block heaters for example? Obviously that would only account for a very small price increase but might be part of it.

Come on down to the States, you can buy your vehicle cheaper and pay out the ass on other BS taxes.

I didn't realize Canadians couldn't buy in the U.S. either. Don't most people in the northern states get block heaters on their trucks anyway? Either way it doesn't look like it's that hard to put one on anyway.

Even with extra features, the freight charge is ridiculous especially when it's manufactured in the same town it's sold in.

    There is a simple workaround.
You just need a US address, which can be obtained through
private shipping companies or a post office box. The allows
the paperwork not to get flagged by corporate.

If you already have an american dealer you are friends with,
then they will sell to you.

The key is once you buy the US vehicle you have to house it
in the states for 3 days before you import it to canada.
    Procedure isn't that bad actually.

Pretty much. I bought mine used without them knowing my US address from dealership in Bellevue. If you buy from a boarder state you can usually leave the car at the dealership while the title gets aproved, took me over a week. For used cars its no problem. You can get temporary registration and canadian insurance. The gas station in Blane does temp storage/parking for cars being imported. They charge $10 a day.

For new cars you have to have a physical US residence that you can register and insure the car under. Then leave it there for a few months and eventually bring it up. Dealerships will not sell to canadians without a residence. In boarder states, they pretty much wont sell new cars to any canadians what so ever. Would need american drivers license.

Right now im exporting a car to the us and importing a car to canada. Its not too hard to do, just need the proper paperwork done.

    Tacoma's, all fees included.
2012 Double cab Tacoma 4x4 Auto 6', TRD Sport
    Canada MSRP - 36800 + Hst =$41227
    American MSRP - 32800 + 8.8% WA st Tax =$35000 (+ ~ $2k import fees/duty/tax)

When i was waiting in line to import another car I talked to this guy here.
    http://useduscars.lpauto.ca/
He has connections with manufacturers and dealerships so he can actually import new cars and not get flagged. Dont know how he dose it but its legit.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
They ship parts from Japan and assemble in Canada iirc. Still doesnt excuse the incredable sales price differences. Does canada have a high import tax :notsure:?

This is why us Canadians buy all our truck parts in the States and ship it to Canada. Even with duty, taxes, brokerage fees, etc it still cheaper than buying locally.

What would it cost you to legally import a vehicle from the US? Is there even a way to do that?

Whether or not you can work around buying a car / truck in the US is not the point , getting gouged in the vehicle's country of manufacture is the point and it's bullshit

So you guys are better off buying a current year, low mileage trade in and importing it vs. paying an extra $10k buying in Canada.
