Are you putting HIDs into the stock housing?

Yes. I know a lot of people hate doing this and frown apon it but as long as I aim they down I should be ok. Had them in there before and no problems

A buddy of mine keeps telling me to put the HIDs in my truck without a retro and keeps telling me I won't go back. I need to see these babies in action before I do it lol.

My fiance has HIDs in her grand cherokee and the light output is shit. They need to be aimed way down which destroys any long distance light.

You do need to do it and see how bright it is. A lot of guys on here say not to put it in stock housing and should get a custom retro fit projecters but if you dont have the money for that then stock housing is fine. As long as you aim it down alittle you wont hurt anyone. And they bright as the sun. I have 8,000k in my tacoma and it was super bright. I could see everything.

Sorry dude. I have a guy on here that wants my lights for alittle more. Sorry.

Another person who hates hids in stock lens lol. I get what people are saying that it's bright. They are but I like it. I can see the road great and I think the light import is fine. I have silver star ultras bulbs now. Paid 45 for a set of bulbs and there shit lol. Worse then the factory bulbs lol. Go figure lol

I have. My dads car had factory projects and put hids in them. You can tell a difference for sure but stock lens is also fine. I guess it depends on the person. I I only got flashes once so far and people don't seem to care.

I have a bullseye its a little day sailboat, but its a traditional design. So its good for rough weather. I put it in in buzzards bay. Only a halfmile from my house:D

I'm not saying HIDs in a stock housing are brighter. I'm saying they suck major balls!

    With HIDs

The light is just scattered . If you took a ride at night in my truck compared to just hids the difference is night and day . Doesn't matter if you aim them perfect they still have dark spots . Mine are just solid light from left to right .

I'm also on the side of no HID's in stock housings. Get decent halogen bulbs that are made for halogen housings and you'll get better light output than just throwing an HID bulb into a housing that wasn't made to receive it. HID's make light down the whole length of the bulb, which is why you get a ton of glare and why it's incourteous to oncoming traffic. The HID's with the shroud underneath help get rid of some of the stray light but it's still not great (not to mention all the scattered light means your headlights will suck in foul weather because the stray light will reflect back at you).

I can understand not wanting to spend the money on retros but good halogen bulbs will still be cheaper than a decent HID setup. I vote do it right or don't do it at all.

I want retros. I just hated the HID stray light without the projectors.

No. The 2003-2005 4Runners have regular halogen lamps, where as the 2006-2009 4Runners have projectors and LED taillights.

My buddy did this to his 05 though, I wanna do the same
