4cyl clutch life expectancy

This question is for the 4 banger owners. How many miles do you have on your original clutch? How long are they expected to last? Cost to replace? I have 101k on my truck and I don't believe that my clutch would last to much longer. I know it depends on how you drive and loads you haul, but just wanting to get a ballpark figure.

 

Depends which clutch it came with. LUK clutches have a life expectancy of about 10000 miles. That is ten thousand, not a typo. Obviously, yours must be an AISIN, its still new, wouldnt worry about it until it wears out.

 

I'm buying an 05 this weekend with 80k miles. We will see how the clutch feels.

 

My Taco too soon to tell still original with 13K on it (4banger 5speed).
My PreTaco don't remember when I changed it curently at 140K with it's 2nd clutch (4banger 5speed).
My past PreTacos I bought used 1 at 190K lasted to 374K with 1 clutch change (4banger 4speed), the other 1 bought at 95K lasted to 296K with 1 clutch change (4banger 5speed).

 

I currently have 180K on my 2007 pre runner with the original clutch. I do however, drive mostly highway.

 

On my first Toyota, an '86 4Runner, I got ~150,000 on the original clutch, and would have possibly more, but it was totaled (I wasn't driving it at the time).

 

My 2003 regular cab 2 wheel drive had 115000 miles on it when I sold it and the original clutch felt like new. That truck towed light/medium loads regularly and was driven 70% in the city or bumper to bumper traffic.

 

How do you find out what kind of clutch you have?

 

An excellent question. If you make it to 20000 miles and it isnt slipping, its probably an AISIN.

Besides that, you would have to physically inspect it for the manufacturer's stamp on the pressure plate, which means the transmission would have to be removed.

There is absolutely NO association between the VIN and the installed clutch. It is purely random.

 

I have about 93,000 on my 2009...feels fine to me...

 

I have 81k on my 2009 and also feels good.

 

I got 20,000 out of my luk clutch before it started to slip and bind. It was replaced under warranty TSB and I'm going good at 26,000 now.

 

130k on the clutch in my 08 2.7 and it is not showing any signs of failure. Hopefully won't have to change it any time soon.

 

On almost all low torque, low displacement, lighter weight vehicles since the mid 80's, clutch life has greatly extended.

With even modest driving skill, 150k should be an easy achievement. Have seen many well over 200k with no issues.........

As far as using 'feel' as a test drive criteria, use great caution. Everything can feel great, and failure be imminent. It's just the way it is. Good one day, slipping the next.

Also, if it feels like a problem, be able to discern between a hydraulics issue, pedal adjustment issue and a clutch disc issue. Hydraulics and adjustments are easy and fairly cheap fixes, discs, not as much.
